Stephen King's 1408 : Trailer's up

This could be one of the best King Adaptations to date, albeit the content taken from one of his shorts and done before CELL, which I'm also looking out for. I don't mind John Cusack's acting abilities. He wasn't too bad in IDENTITY, and a more dramatic noir THE ICE HARVEST. Can't say that I disliked him in BETTER OFF DEAD either, hehe.

Looking forward to it!

 Ohyeaaaaaaah!!! Looking forward to that! Bigtime!

Still though... Stephen King? Haunted hotel? Little girl ghosts? Comparisons with Kubrick will be made... very brave, Mikael Hafstrom! Respect to that man.

He leans heavily on shock-shots in the trailer, which is the thing to do if he wants to fill seats, and they'll do the job nicely - I counted four tingles crawling up my spine... but I like horror films to have more! The main protagonist's obsession with death should add dimension and give the film a whole universe of edgy weight you get with the best horror flicks. But I'm not sure John Cusack has that kind of presence and intensity. I mean, I love his acting ability, but, you know... imagine Cillian Murphy, for example. We'll see!

The cinematography and lighting are stunning though, aren't they? And, how the hell do they compress those trailers so crisply and efficiently? I know the source material is highest quality available, but there must be more to it than that. Do they lock a team into a room and make them knit it by hand or something?:)

WOW... I can't stand any of the newer stuff by King and the adaptations of his work tend to be just as bad. However, this looks like it would be a fun flick to see. Cuasack is good, just has picked too many $%@#$ rolls in recent times.

Thanks for the post.

this film looks freaking awesome. could we get another misery, shawshank, or stand by me? The only good king adaptations ever?

It's a perfect movie concept.

Well, looks like I don't have to go to the theater....they showed the whole movie in the preview! Too bad, it might have been fun.

This story was one of the scariest that I have read in a long, long time. No shi*. Check it out in the short story collection from King called "Everything's Eventual". Good bone-chilling stuff.

Yessssss. Everyone should check out King's short stories. The man's got punch in a few pages, I tells ya that. SOme of his shorts are just as mystical as Dreamcatcher as well. The one about the kid that poured change in the drain draws to the front o'my mind.

I will also vouche for his short stories, I have been reading them since I was a kid, great stuff.

Although I do love Cusack to death, I can't help but think this character seems essentially the same as his character in Identity. Just a feeling I got from the trailer, hopefully I'm wrong.

This actually looks cool. i probably wont see it cause im chicken...but i like some of the things...especialy the picture that comes to life...

Oh man, 1408 was the first dose of Stephen King I had and it was fantastic. An excellent short story, though I've always envisioned Neo's boss in The Matrix to play Mr. Olin. I don't know why.

The premise of this movie seemed a little lackluster until I saw the trailer - but the execution of the production looks fantastic. This looks like it could be one of the best King adaptations. Agree that the trailer does show a bit too much, though.

I actually get the chills thinking about this movie, and on July 1st, I am going to see it with this chick I know, so I really can't wait to see this movie so I can pull out the old, "If you get scared, you can hold onto me." line! AHHHHH!!!

I saw it last night at a screening. It was fantastic. The casting of John Cusack was inspired. He is something of a cynical everyman in this one. And Samuel L. Jackson was another case of inspired casting. I loved the movie. It was a true horror movie that didn't depend on tons of gore to get its story across. In fact, I was surprised to hear the writers talk about it being PG-13. I was so into the movie, I didn't even notice it wasn't rated R. The writers were disappointed at first when they heard Bob Weinstein wanted to make it PG-13 instead of R but were quite happy when they saw how it came out. This, to me, is the best Stephen King story in a LONG time. I was a little worried that this might be a retread of The Shining but it wasn't. It's really nice to see a good horror movie finally come along...

This had an engaging story with well written characters (even though it is almost entirely Cusack) and good dialogue. See it.
