Any Danny Boyle fans out there? I'm really excited for this. Boyle is definately one of my favorite modern directors. I can't wait to see what he does with a Sci-Fi epic, which is what this looks like it will be. I also think that Cillian Murphy is an incredible actor. I'm hoping that this will be what I refer to as "Smart Sci-Fi". I think that there is a big void right now in film for mature, intelligent, accesible Science Fiction, for which I see endless possibilities.

What do you guys think?

p.s. Only reservation I have right now is that Chris Evans (the Human Torch from the Fantastic Four) is in it. But then again, I think Fantastic Four could've made Tom Hanks look bad, so we'll see.

I'll watch it just because Cillian is in it. I loved him in 28 days later. Trainspotting was ok, but 28 days later was better in my opinion(I like horror). I'd like to see what Danny Boyle will do with this.
Boy, people really love that track from Requiem for a dream, yeesh.

A "Wages of Fear / Sorcerer" for a new generation!!!

yeah but this is done by a good director.

Amiel isn't a bad director. There's only so much you can do with a ludicrous, piece-of-crap story, and "Sunshine" looks to be exactly the kind of ludicrous, piece-of-crap story that "The Core" was.

I have to disagree. By that argument, you could say that (based simply on their premise) about a lot of films that are coming out and that have been out.

Don't get me wrong though, "The Core" was a ludicrous, piece of crap.

Well, a lot of films that have been out or are coming out are ludicrous pieces of crap.

But I don't base it solely on the premise. I base it on the premise AND the shots we see in the trailer which indicate how weak the story will be.

I admit its not the best trailer, but I'm still interested. I also trust the people involved to make something compelling and unique. Personally, I think there are some pretty cool shots in the trailer (I'd like to see a better quality version).

But man, that Clint Mansell score from Requiem is about to become as cliche as Adagio for Strings from Platoon.

David, can I assume you don't plan on seeing this?

Who knows? I watched "The Core."

Maybe if enough people say it's better then I expect, I'll give it a rent one day. But in the theater? Not a ghost's whisper of a chance.

which was used by David Lynch in The Elephant Man first.

True true, thanks for pointing that out. I saw Platoon before I saw Elephant Man, so whenever I hear it I always think of Platoon.

The yahoo version was flaky on my system so I found this one if any body else was having an issue:

Comingsoon.net

Also, here is the internatonal version:

International

All I can say this this looks awesome. Thanks Ben for bringing it to my attention.

david you're hiting this movie with no sett up in other than the sun is dying. come on now have faith . and thats coming from me.

Well, the premise is as stupid as the core of the Earth stopping its spin.

But that's not the issue. You accept the premise of the movie and go from there.

If they're going to "reignite the sun," the trip would take several years -- and there have to be obstacles along the way, or there's not much of a movie. Obviously there ARE obstacles, judging from the shots of the film, but what are those obstacles going to be? Nothing that would actually happen in the real world.

In any case, this is probably belabored further than it should have been. I think it'll be crap. I also think the new Diana Ross album will be crap. I think I'm right on both. But if I'm wrong, then I'm wrong. No biggie.
