DVCPROHD from FCP to windows

Hi there

Is there anyway to view a quicktime DVCPROHD capture in windows without any conversion . I wish apple will make a version of this codec for quickime for windows.

What I want to do is share HVX200 footage captured on a MAC using FCP with PC users and MAC users - We are all working on the same music video project .

The problem I am running into is the MAC users who have FCP installed can view the files but the Windows users cannot , the windows users get sound but no video .

Can someone please give me advice on the best way to work around this, I want to keep the DVCPROHD format and I want to use it on both After effects for windows ands MAC . I tried using AVID for Windows but it just displays sound with a white screen.

Cheers Allygirl

Apple has chosen to convert the HVX files into their own proprietary format, and to make that format incompatible with Windows. Apple makes Quicktime, but they only allow DVCPRO-HD files in the Mac version of Quicktime. If you convert the files from their native MXF into Apple Quicktimes, you're making something that is basically a one-way street -- only Apple can play them. Until Apple decides to make DVCPRO-HD available in their Windows version of Quicktime, you're going to have problems.

With that said, I thought that if you were running Avid XPress Pro 5.5, you should be able to import and play a Mac DVCPRO-HD quicktime file anyway. I'm pretty sure you can do that in Canopus EDIUS.

But outside of those programs, no, it's pretty much a one-way street.

If anything could help it'd be Raylight, but I don't know if it will, and even if it does that would be a one-way solution again -- you could take it from the Mac to Raylight on the PC, but you couldn't go back to the Mac from there.

A compatible way to go might be to "print to video" from the Mac back out to the HVX and record it onto the P2 cards, and then take those cards to the PC and let them work with the native files.

What about using Flip4Mac to do WMV HD files? You can make them, but not watch them on the Mac (MS won't let WMV HD play on Macs, just like Apple won't let DVCPROHD QT play on Win PCs). Then when it comes back to you, re-convert. Just thinking out loud. Never delt with WMV HD files, I know I can make them, but, not sure what that format is like.

You can go both ways with Raylight, since Raylight can covert DVCPROHD quicktimes to Raylight AVI (with Maker) and then make MXF files importable into FCP. I covered that here

All without recompression.

Marcus, you're like a big "black box" problem solver. Whatever problem we have, we run it through dvfilm, and a working solution comes out the other side. Thank you for all that you've done for the DVX & HVX user community!

Thanks for the advice I was able to use DVfilm to convert the FCP DVCPROHD footage to regular Quicktime Footage and then open it for editing in After effects and Premiere . I really appreciate all the help .

DVfilm can also convert to DVCPRO HD via AVID's codec AVID DV100

Avid offers a free codec pack that also includes DNxHN, which rocks, especially for recompression.
