Production Monitor and Connection through Firewire

Hey all,

Looking at a field monitor and it looks like I may be able to get some good used deals on ebay. Two questions, is neccesary to have a manual monitor, that is to adjust the luminance, chroma and such manually, or are factory preset monitors going to do me fine? I basically am looking to do color correction and preview my work on a what it will look like monitor.

The other thing is I dont have a deck and will be soon using the hs-100 with the hvx200, meaning I will not have something hooked up through firewire, meaning no bnc or rca connections from some external device on my mac. Can someone recommend a connection adapter lets say going from firewire to the monitors bnc or rca?

Much obliged,
Tim

A bit vague....

Are you talking about the FS-100?
Then you will indeed have something hooked up to the FW port.

But why don't you just use the component or S-video out from the camera for field monitoring? Going through FW is useless for HD and clumsy @ best for SD for on-set monitoring when you have analogue out on the camera.

Also not really sure what you mean by "manual" monitor, but if you refer to a broadcast monitor, that is better - though some will consider it overkill for a set monitor. But if you can, why not?

Cheers!

Forget about the manual stuff, I found a great deal on ebay which is going to work out perfect. Got a sony PVM-1351Q for 300, so i am satisified.

The jist of the firewire is this, when I am using my camera as the capture device on fcp, you can view the actual timline footage on the lcd of the camera while sifting through the clips and such. The only way a field monitor can get this specific feed would be through the rca connection through the camera, then the camera through the firewire. I want to eliminate the camera and while I am editing, just see the timeline feed.

I know I could setup the second dvi port on my mac pro to connect through svideo, but that will send the feed of my computers monitor, not the timeline feed.

Any ideas on how I might go about connecting it that way would be nice,
thank!
