Is there an FCP equivalent to PS "Curves"

I love the Photoshop color controls...specifically, "Curves", Levels" and "Selective Color"

Are there any FCP stock effects that I'm not seeing that can easily generate the same or similar results?

Among other filters, I've been using the "Color Corrector" to crush my blacks and pop my whites ... but, I'd like to have a Curve-like grid that would allow me to carefully select how much black/white/RGB I'm replacing. For example, I love blowing out my whites but obviously maintaining really rich blacks.

Any thoughts?

well if you go and look in the filter menu there under image control there is a levels that work just like ps levels. As for a curve like gird I don't think there is one but you can do everything you are talking about with use of the different color tools and limmiting effects using the three way color corector and other tools.

Hey man ... yeah, I spend quite a bit of time in the cc and 3-way cc filters. they rock. limit effect = awesome. i also like a few of the other stock filters. Not a huge fan of the scopes, though. But then again, I'm no master at scopes either!

Yeah, I just dig going inot PS and hitting the levels and curves and being able to create a gem in a flash.

Hey I hear you. But different program different tools. You could always export the the film as a image sequence or film sequence and import into ps. And then do the color in ps I have seen allot of people do it. It takes time but I've seen people cut it down by using automater with ps.

Really???!

How exactly does that (automater) work? I'm cutting music videos so my media is only about 3-5 minutes on average .. so exports probably wouldn't be too too bad.

You have to learn the 3-Way Color Corrector, then you can do anything like you'd do in PS. But FCP doesn't have the curves, they use the color wheels. Same info, different way of working with it. Scopes are super easy to learn about, too. The APTS book on Advanced Color Correction has great tutorials that can get you up to speed quickly.

Color Finesse - I have it running in FCP and it's amazing. Certain things I still use 3-way color corrector for, but most everything I run through color finesse and use curves. Really makes the images pop.

Cheers,
Dale

Nope. That is definitely not true.

Couldn't agree more though I do find that I can do some things easier with NLE type software than in Photoshop - ironic as that is. Secondary corrections mostly.

Color Finesse is definitely good stuff if you're into the whole Telecine style controls. I personally prefer a mix of telecine and 'traditional'. I mean, crap, some things are nigh impossible without channel mixing...

FCP doesn't have curves?! WTF? So WHY is this software so hyped (other than decent HVX support and the OS)?

I'd argue it is very much true, once you learn to use the tools properly.

I'll also throw in Studio Artist. I can do color grading and gamma tricks neither FCP nor PS can come close to achieving.

Learn the tools, learn them right, nothing you can't do in FCP that you can do in PS. I teach it all the time and my students are blown away with how mistaken they were in their use of FCP.

"Curves" are not anything special. I can work with or without them. Same info, different tools, same results, period. I actually hate curves, to flaky, not enough precision.

Ok, here's the challenge:

Imagine a curve that looks like a sine-wave with 8 peaks (8 cycles). How do you do that in FCP?

With the 3-Way CC filter, and any number of other filters, duh!
