Good monitor for editing

I need a new monitor for editing. Is this monitor (DELL 2407FPW 24" LCD monitor) will be a good choice. Any other good suggestion in that price range or above. I know this one can do HD.

I've researched a little bit about the monitors in this range and I'd steer clear of the 2407 since dell has essentially crippled the color capabilities so that it will have a quicker response time. I've heard the Dell 2405 is still pretty good if you can find it.

I have the Apple 23" and the Dell 2407 (yep Shane, I have the 07, so that explains probably some... -;)

Stay away from the Dell for videoediting.
The Apple is eh... ok with the digital cinema desktop preview from FCP.

Just have to mention this:
The only proper way to monitor, is on an external calibrated broadcast monitor fed through a dedicated video card.

Ouch.
Done -;)

I'm not the same calibre as some of these folks, and only dabble with editing. That said, I'm currently using a Dell 32" as a secondary monitor and primary TV in my office. It gives me a better idea of how things will look, even if it isn't properly calibrated- just by eye. I also have an old NEC 2000 pro video monitor that I'm trying to figure out how to hook up to the chain. It doesn't do 16:9 or HD, but it does have Pro features like Blue only. I plan to use this next to my primary monitor for color correction.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions.

So I'm better with an older version of the 24 inches (2405), if I can find one. I was looking at the Apple display too, but I was just wondering if there was not something better in the same price range. I know the LaCie (321) monitor are good but they are not cheap too and if I'm right, they are done by NEC and there are probably cheaper from that company. I don't know the model from NEC.

Hey Shane, thanks for the review on the Apple vs Dell.

Yup, I'm "old school", but I would get a nice Sony PVM 20M4U 20" CRT.

I will not trust any CC on an LCD.

You aren't going to get better than the Apple 23" or Dell 2405. Those are the top of the line.
I have the Dell 2405 it is a great monitor BUT I also have the Dell 30" its even bigger and better :cheesy:

Doing a search for Dell 2405, I found that Dell UltraSharp 2407FPW 24-in. LCD Display is now version 04. Can we trust this new update version ?

Anybody got one and say if this one have solve the last issue ?

At a price of $ 799 cds, if the problems has been solve, this is a good deal.

Is this monitor a good choice :

These are good for digital photographers who like to use wide gamuts but are generally poor for video. The problem is that they represent more colors than video (SD or HD) is capable of displaying so they will not display HD or SD properly.
