Best Wide Angle for the HVX?

What HD wide angle adapters are available for the HVX? All I ever hear about is the Century Optics .8X.

Are there any other decent HD wide angle lenses (that don't require 35mm adapters) for the HVX?

I have the REDEYE from vfgadgets.com - very little edge softness and only the size of a filter. you can put on the stock lensshade after attaching the wideangle. Beats the size of the century but is non zoom through.

Yeah i also have the .7X RED-Eye. Its as light as a screw on filter, you can use the the original HVX lens shade which the century would not allow. No zoom through but I didn't want zoom through anyway.

Do the wide angle adapters have to be rated HD or will the DV ones work? I imagine it's a better grade of glass on the HD versions, correct?

Can you attach filters infront of the Red-Eye? Does it have a thread in the front?
I doubt it but one can ask ;-)
I am certain the Centruy wouldn´t have a thread either, would it ?

After Barry's recommendation I got the full zoom wide angle .75 x adapter from 16x9.

Just like he said it's extremely sharp on the edges when fully open. It falls a bit as you zoom through it but it's a very acceptable compromise.

I'm very happy with it.

The Century WA adapters do have a front thread (102mm), so you can attach filters to them.

I recently bought a Cavision.6 non zoom through adapter. I'm very satisfied with it. It gives a slight fisheye effect which I wanted. Seems to be good glass and very sharp, multi coated. The company makes a whole range of broadcast gear. It runs less than half the price of the equivilant Century lens. If anyone is interested I can post screen grabs of shots using the lens.

The Century Optics 0.6x WA is less than US$ 400 online, that would mean the Cavision would have to sell for about US$ 200.

Screen grab - Cavision .6 WA adapter for HVX

Screen grab - Cavision .6 WA adapter for HVX

Here is a grab (link) from my last shoot- not the best example because subjects are moving rapidly and there is motion blur. Obviously there is some barrel distortion, a characteristic I expected and wanted from a wide adapter. Not everyone will. The edge sharpness seems to be good on this lens.

In the still below, camera was traveling with subjects so focus is better on them.
Building is motion blurred.

The $179 version is the one I used to make the footage that the above grabs came from. It does have a 72 to 82 step down ring - but the camera was zoomed fully out,
so there is no significant vignetting.

how effective is this adaptor if you don't want any distortion?

You won't find a budget rectilinear wide angle adapter. That's the domain of very expensive lenses.

My review of the 16x9 should be posted soon. I thought it performed quite well at full wide. It suffers a loss of sharpness as you zoom in, but I can live with that because what's the point of zooming in on a wide angle anyway? It performs much better at full wide than the Century .75 does, for example.

With that said, the 16x9 is only a .75, so it's not *tremendously* wider. But it is wider.
