They don't make 'em like that anymore (both films & dames)

These were women...real women, yet larger than life all at the same time.
They had a bottomless well of serious talent, yet knew how to play the game flawlessly.

My BEST ACTOR list may be a bit heavy with classic stars, but as for the broads...Fughedaboutit! The actresses today (with some exceptions) are little more than little girls at heart who are lost in a sea of delusional celebrity.

Nossir...my money is on the golden age queens of the silver screen.

I am gonna revise my list as the 15 actresses that I love the most(I don't wanna get involved in the whole my list is better than your list nonsense).
Isabelle Huppert, Gena Rowlands, Giulietta Masina, Elizabeth Taylor, Liv Ullman, Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett(Elizabeth is incredible), Ingrid Bergman, Kathy Bates, Joan Allen, Charlotte Rampling, Meryl Streep, Bibi Andersson, Juliette Binoche, and Lily Tomlin

01 MERYL STREEP
02 EMMA THOMPSON
03 JUDY DENCH
04 JESSICA TANDY
05 MAUREEN O'HARA
06 KATHRINE HEPBURN
07 BARBRA STANWYK
08 SUSAN HAYWARD
09 BETTY DAVIS
10 KATHY BATES
11 DEBRAH KERR
12 VANESSA REDGRAVE
13 INGRID BERGMAN
14 Hilary Swank (thanx chromeboy).......where all the white women at! man there has to be a change someday! two list and not one person of darker color!

Okay, here are the actresses whose work I enjoy. They are not necessarily in order, I'm still working on that.

Sigourney Weaver
Charlize Theron
Holly Hunter
Cate Blanchett
Connie Nielson
Jodie Foster
Laura Linney
Faye Dunaway
Helen Mirren
Nicole Kidman
Madeleine Stowe
Judy Dench
Ingrid Bergman
Elizabeth Taylor

Just missing the cut was Jamie Lee Curtis who has a lot of range as an actress. She can do drama and comedy but I just couldn't fit her into the top 15.

wait a minute ALFRIE WOODARD?she has never carried a movie she is good but....and besides she stiffed me on a massage i gave her, and she was balling her eyes out in my hands. Stella Adler great teacher if she was so great of an actress would she had been teaching?(i suspect an alliegence to her) Chad Marilyn over O'hara come on!

Nice list Blaine ! Quite a few I wanted to add !

In no particular order:

Bette Davis
Kate Winslet
Uma Thurman
Faye Dunaway
Ellen Burstyn
Holly Hunter
Glenn Close
Frances McDormand
Sigourney Weaver
Meryl Streep
Kathy Bates
Anne Bancroft
Sissy Spacek
Helen Mirren
Anjelica Huston

They are all solid actressses in the right films. Most of the women on my list are not overly beautiful in the traditional sense as in model material (aside from Winslet, Thurman). I would probably never cast a dropdead gorgeous woman (a traditional beauty) in one of my films unless it really REALLY called for it or they could dumbdown their good looks (Charlize Theron). I'm really sick of beautiful modellike women playing everyday people (i.e. beautiful detective trying to find a serial killer, etc.) If she's in a film like Pirates of the Caribbean (Keira Knightley) then it's great and a major asset to the film but I'm sick of seeing overly goodlooking people (male or female) in serious, "realistic" drama-based films. If you are trying to make a realistic movie bring in the everyday / flawed folk THAT CAN ACT and keep the real beauties in model magazines or porn LOL. So that's what my list of actresses reflect more or less.

Not only from America :

Ingrid Bergman
Romy Schneider
Jeanne Moreau
Monica Vitti
Liv Ullmann
Gina Lollobrigida
Audrey Tautou
Juliette Binoche
Penelope Cruz
Isabelle Huppert

and many more...
