Can you "Link" filters in FCP?

Okay so say I use a series of rectangles to make a donut shaped ring. Footage under the ring is the effect (blur, color change, distortion, whatver). I'm stuck, my only option is to build the "ring" this way. So in doing so I used like 10 filters (same filter 10 times that is). Now say I want to move the origin of the entire ring at the same time, so I don't have to manually re-adjust each applied filter, is this possible in FCP?

cheers.

from how I understand your explanation it looks like you could just nest that composite into another sequence and then it would be treated like one clip.

Its not the footage persay that I care about it at all. Its the filters applied to it. I want to be able to save them as a "package" and then when I apply it to the different tape I need to be able to adjust the origins to deal with the fact that on the different tape the camera will be slightly offset.

And as far as I can tell you can't do it. Basically this is something you need Motion, AE, and/or Shake for. Just for the purposes of this specific task that becomes a near impossibility, so was hoping I could find a FCP cheat.

cheers.

Sorry if I misunderstood. This is what I got from your question
This just sounds like a composite (10 rectangles each on their own track ) that you want to animate (or move around ) without having to manually move each individual rectangle.

What filters are you applying? and what are you applying them to? The rectangles?

Sorry about that, I sometimes over assume things and don't explain stuff clearly enough, I'll break it down...

DV NTSC frame
Joe's Soft Shape Filter (x10)

By using "rectangles" am able to create a ring/donut in the frame. All the footage under that are is what is being blurred. So if you look at the filters tab in FCP you'll see Joe's Soft Shape, Joe's Soft Shape - 1, Joe's Soft Shape -2, etc.

Now basically this exact ring, shape and size, once initially tweaked, can be used everytime exactly as is. However, within the frame, the exact area being blurred might be a bit off each time (each tape the camera is oriented just slightly differently, enough to make it an issue, and can't do anything about the camera, this is all way after the fact).

So what we would want to do is keep all 10 filters, exactly as is, but be able to move all their origins simultaneously, as if they were just one "donut blur" filter. Now again, moving all the origins isn't that big a deal, but there is a tone of material to go through, so to help streamline things was curious if you could link the filters such that you could move all the origins at once. To my knowledge FCP can't do this though.

Thanks for taking the time to try and figure out a solution though brinks.

cheers.

Open the clip with the filters from the Timeline into the Viewer window. Then go to the Effect menu and select "Make Favorite".

As for having to tweak the parameters of each filter to adjust it to that particular clip, that just has to be done, plain and simple. Nothing will automatically figure out what you're thinking and just do it.

I'm not clear about what you're trying to do with this effect. Could you post a still? I have a feeling that there's a more simple way to get your effect without using a ton of filters.

Yah I had done the Favorites already, but thanks for that. I think it might just have to be a little slower process then I would have liked, not the end of the world though.

cheers.
