Good PC compressors (aside from Sorensen)?

I've been using Sorensen for a while and I'm losing my patiences with it. I love all the options but I've tons of errors (it won't let me encode progressivly, often it stops compressing half way through and half my video is just white, recently files I compressed with it have a bunch of green pixelation around them when I try to bring them into Encore DVD 2.0) and I can't help but think there must be a less glitch-ridden program for those of us who don't have Macs. Anyone?

If you use Sorenson for QT encoding you wont find anything as good and as cheap as Quicktime Pro. Ide try that first, and even if you dont like it its got a few little features I love anyways ;)

If you're on Windows XP you have lots of free software to use.

Microsoft Windows Media encoder creates VC-1 files (which is what is used on HD-DVD, blu-ray and is always windows compatible)

You can also use Megui or Staxrip to create .mp4 files with either mpeg-4 or H.264 (your choice for system compatibility) This makes you compatible with Quicktime 6 or 7 (depending on your choice of codecs). This codec gives the best results for the file size.

Then you can use Riva-FLV if you want to make Flash video files to display your videos over the web. This codec is compatible with all current generation operating systems/web browsers (basically everything except OS 9, and DOS, OS/2)

All Free.

Dont pay for anything other than an mpeg encoder, and even still you can find some of those for free as well.
