Help need with .AVI Type 1 DV files from FireStore Pro...

I recently covered a corp meeting with 2 Sony PD-150s and 2 Firestore Pro drives. I set them to record in AVI Type 1, thinking that would create the best workflow. However, upon importing into Premiere Pro 2.0, all of my video needs rendering from the beginning. I have 16 hours of source footage so I would like to avoid rendering if possible.

Is there a way to edit this .AVI Type 1 video without needing to be rendered first?

Can I convert these .AVI Type 1 files to something that Premiere will recognize without rendering?

Also, what should I have saved them as, RAW DV? That was the default setting - but I figured Premiere captured as AVI... Any Help?

I am using Premiere 1.5 and it needs to see Type 2 avi's, not Type 1. If you record on the Firestore using Type 2 avi's, there won't be any rendering.

Your best bet will just be to open them in something like VirtualDub or some other free little program and export using your DV codec again to an AVI. They should be default be Premiere compatible and type 2.

Canopus AVI converter

Canopus AVI converter

Just found this older post and realized I left out one important detail about using the Canopus AVI Type converter... It is instant. i.e. no rendering - it just changes some header info and makes it Type 2 rather than Type 1.
