Question : Trimming My Premiere Pro Files For Backup

Hi dear friends,

I have completed an editing job & would like to backup all my video files to DVD-Rs for archive purposes & to reuse again in the future. Please refer to the included screenshot below :

I'm wondering what are the files & folders I can effectively & safely delete before backing up to reduce the number of files to backup. I notice that the "conformed audio files" folder is so huge. I'm unsure of what files can be deleted without compromising the integrity & workability of my Premiere project should I need to reuse the files again in future. Please to suggest that I should backup to an external harddisk as in my country, they are still quite expensive to purchase. Thanks for your advice & suggestions.

Delete the conformed audio files. If you ended up wanting to change anything Premiere will just reconformed all of your files again, which takes time but will not affect your edit.
 
I see. Thanks for the advice. I did notice on & off that whenever I imported audio files like an MP3 song into Premiere, that Premiere would have to conform it before it can be usable on the timeline. Same thing when uploading video footage from my miniDV tape to the PC. After capturing, Premiere will always conform it first. That cleared up some of my doubts. Any other premiere project files & folder that can be safely deleted without compromising the overall project?
 
You can also delete all or most of the auto-save files. They are just extra copies of your original project just in case something happens to it. Whenever the window pops up that says "saving..." it's creating those auto-save files. It probably won't clear up too much space, but it's something.
 
You can also delete your preview files (unless it took you an insane amount of time to render something). You can always re-conform and re-render files.

Have you looked into external hard drives? You can find high capacity drives for excellent prices.
 
You can also:
-remove unused files through project>remove unused
-project>project manager>create new trimmed project and burn that project to DVD. It even trims the clips you have used, thus giving you the smallest back up possible.

If you really want to save all the files, used or not, just make sure you have imported them and then:
project>project manager>collect files and copy to new location and make sure to uncheck exclude unused clips.

Also you can delete the rendered output file since you can always rerender.
