well there was an option in after effects, in the customize part under "VIDEO CODEC" instead of "On2 VP6" switch it to "Sorenson Spark" No more about that, this thread is for feedback on my vid
It's amazing Noah. I think you did a great job with the graphics and syncing the music. 3 days you say? Wow. So what is the prize for the winner(s) of this?
Clever way to get rid of the greenscreen issues. You put a lot of work into it, seems you are aiming for the top. The artists though are destroyed... heh... don't know if they would like this but great effort.
EDIT: My 2 cents:
- I understand that you want this quick and harsh panning but I see some moves that would need some ease in/out.
- It seems that you are panning on a composition with position/scale, right? or is it AE camera? Anyway, tip, if you are using position keyframes, switch to anchor point keyframes, they render a more camera-like movement.
yea dude you did a great job. I had to edit mine in a rush cuz I had to leave to LA, but got it done in time, I had a total of 3-4 hours of sleep during three days of editing. good luck with it. It's definetly incubus's style.
Yeah Hiro, I created mine from scratch in three days. Did it 12 hours a day. I'll put it up on my website once the contest is over, so you guys can see a higher res version.
Cool concept, nicely executed for three days work, but I think it lost focus as the video went on...not ness. your fault considering the song kind of drags, but a little bit of narrative from the graphics would go a long way in carrying the viewer through the song.
The camera easing is definately an issue, if there was a camera, movements were a little too rigid, coupled with the constant zooming in and out makes it a little difficult to watch at times. On the wide shots the line width that outlines the band is too thick. It shoudl have been thin relative to the CU's of the band since you really lose all detail with that thick of line in the wide shots. Also, the font that pop's up that looks like the comic book text, I don't think it works as nicely as some hand drawn/hand distressed type would have looked...not consistent with the overall look.
I would have liked to seen the color be used more effeciently...right now it's just there and doesn't tell us anything. The color could have been used to tell us something, a story, or inject meaning, but it's been relegated to heighten the chorus with random splashes here and there.
Overall, good job, I was going to give the contest a go, but got too busy with work...
Great video man. Love the look of it all. and what a way to suffer for your art eh? One thing though, I thought each scene moved on too fast and because of that, before your eyes can really settle on one scene to 'digest' it, it'd already moved on. Got a little dizzy after a while trying to follow the video. BUt great video nonetheless..
Very hot work! I really dig the whole sketched/notebook look of the video but cuts seem a bit too quick and the posterization of the band sometimes becomes a bit too thick but otherwise works in context with the way you are presenting the video.
I seriously need to learn After Effects...sorry for the random thought.
Awesome work, Just need some work on the keyframing.
What you can do to make it edgy and cut down on some of the zooms and stuff is by filming two dots on a wall (horizontal to each other) for the length of the music video, capturing it, and doing a motion track to the two dots.
Then apply it to the anchor point of your camera, and you'll get a somewhat realistic hand cam. Then cut down on some of the cuts and you'll have a pretty edgy effect, but still be more watchable.
Easy ease on all the frames could help quite a bit too.
What were your export settings for the video? Was the output lossless? Everything moves really smoothly....
And did you do most of the scenes in separate compositions? Like did you have the main pic of the desk and the paper and you animated that and then in a separate comp you added the writing and video?
Oh and how did you create the writing that appears with some of the lyrics....?
It was all done in one comp. I pretty much set everything up in 3D space. Then adjusted all the camera movement/zooms. The writing appears with some of the default animation presets in AE. It was a font that looked like writing. I didn't have enough time to animate the text IN and OUT by hand. I added motion blur with the shutter angle at 250 i believe. Once contest winner is announced i will let you know when a higer res version is on my website (noahshulman.com)
