Movies You Would Rather Vomit On Than Watch Twice

Hmmm...I somehow missed this thread.
Technically, I couldn't even get through these once. I did a lot of fast-forwarding.

1. 2001: A Space Odyssey
2. A Clockwork Orange
3. Eyes Wide Shut
4. Miss Congeniality 2

This guy has someting against Kubrick, putting Miss Cong 2 in the same category as these 3 Kubrick films.. so 2001 is a bit strange, but how could anyone possibly fast forward Clockwork and EWS?

Eyes Wide Shut would have been a marginally passable film if the very last line of dialog hadn't been an utter and complete sellout.

I can understand where you are coming from, but EWS is just a man's SEXUAL FANTASY... from the soundtrack to the lights to the utterly cheesy dialogue between Cruise and the girl who "saved" him in the castle to the plot to the sets to the overall look of the film. It is NOT a serious philosophical examination into marital problems or infidelity or even sexual psychology, though elements of these subjects are certainly involved.

Taken as a whole, the last line seems quite fitting.

I can see how you'd think that - about me having something against Kubrick. However, Spartacus? Amazing. Full Metal Jacket? Amazing. The Shining? Amazing. I'm not sure I even knew that 2001, EWS and Orange were Kubrick's at the time I viewed them. I just happen to hate those three movies very much.

Adding Miss Congeniality 2 was a bit tongue in cheek, I'll admit, but I think these movies are complete and total crap: pretentious, boring, highly over-rated and I honestly can't stand them. And it's not for lack of trying to like them or at least understand why they're considered cinema masterpieces. Haven't been successful at either.

PS Haven't seen Lyndon or Strangelove yet.

Cool. Consider them netflixed. Maybe it will break the tie...3 of Kubrick's I love, 3 I absolutely hate.

I concur. Barry Lyndon is AMAZING. Only kubrick has the Balls to actually shoot a period piece, with natural light..... and by natural light i mean candles.

The humor is VERY subtle though. you have to like actively listen to them speaking to get all the underlying subtext. I didint get it the first couple times i watched it.

I understood the humor, and with the exception of George C. Scott in the War Room, just didn't find it as funny as you seem to.

completely feel the same way. i remember i started a thread about "your favorite filmmakers' worst movies" and named this for kubrick. it's so over the top, that i just don't find it funny.

I have said many times that Kubrick is vastly overrated as a director (Hitch he ain't!) I agree that 2001 and A Clockwork Orange are boring, boring films (something that it is not PC to say in some circles.)

He did make 2 great classics in his time, tho...Dr. Strangelove (one of the best comedies of all time) and The Shining (one of the best horrors...and my pick for the scariest film ever.)

I feel about the same way about Kubrick. I think his best movie is The Shining. I can watch and enjoy Full Metal Jacket, Spartacus and The Killing. I used to be a fan of 2001 but for me it's just lost something over the years. The ones I've seen and don't like: Eyes Wide Shut, Barry Lyndon, Dr. Strangelove and A Clockwork Orange.
