Has anyone got experience with this Xenarc 800x480 resolution tft? I tried the search function but no one had real experiences with it.

I know there's a thread about these on the hvx hardware section, but I want to know if this is any good in SD monitoring.

thanks

I could only see that it has a VGA input... Are you getting a model that takes composite or Y/C? I have used Xenarc displays before, and with all honesty, they were as good as a small portable DVD player for monitoring, but no more. This one may be different. The fact that it's 16x9 may get you fairly accurate framing once you do some tests, but don't expect it to report accurate colors or gamma. Also don't forget you have to power it somehow. All in all I am a big fan of LCD displays even if just for eye relief. I like using a portable DVD player for monitoring because it folds closed to protect the screen, has a battery built in, and can be used for other functions as well, like showing people demos. :)

Hey thanks Rush, one question though: what models from xenarc have you used before? Had they the native 800x480 resolution or any lower?

One was a 9" 800x480, and I wasn't blown away. The motion was rickety, and the screen had grid lines in it. I dunno if they improved since then. I remember liking the varizoom 7" better even though it was less rez. Also, the xenarc I used had a metal plate on the front, to make it look nice for cars, I guess, but it also made it weigh a ton. Like I said, they may have improved since then.
