chroma key question

is it possible to get the outline of the person out of the pics without hurting the quality. Heres a printscreen.

Also, how come my fathers body is somewhat see thru. This is my first time experimenting with the green screen so I'm trying to get down the basics

That's going to be tough. That's a very poorly-lit greenscreen.

First, use a secondary color corrector on it and try to brighten up the green.

Then, apply a chroma blur -- medium or heavy.

Then, use the eyedropper in the chroma keyer to select the color.

Don't feather.

You're better off re-shooting this with better lighting. For greenscreen purposes it's recommended to light the greenscreen evenly. Light your subject with different lights and keep their distance from the screen as much as possible. This will yield better results.

What David said is usually what works best in Vegas.

Those grabs look like they have some room for adjusting the contrast a bit. Use your scopes while doing this and stay under the normal IRE levels

As John Hudson said, I would use the Sony Levels FX while watching your Waveform Monitor to get more dynamic range in the shot. Then I would do as David said and use the Secondary Color Corrector to make the green screen even and add Chroma Blur before the Chroma Keyer to smooth the key out. Your subject is transparent because you didn't adjust the High Threshold on the Chroma Keyer. You want to show the mask and fine tune with the mask on. Then turn it off to check your work. The mask should be solid black and white with no gray.

You might want to read the tutorial on the VASST web site called: Gain a better understanding of Chromakey / Greenscreen / Bluescreen by Keith Kolbo. It will give you a good base to start with.
