Hi,

The rode NTG2 will be NEW! i know it's half the price...pls i need quick feedback, window of opportunity might close soon!

I just bought one recently as my only mic to get started and I am very pleased...
Everyone will tell you here that it is "acceptable" or "decent" and indeed, when you are talking about a professional job that is what it is, nothing more, but definitely (IMHO) nothing less.
I have worked on shows where the sound guy had a $500 mic, not top of the line, but a serious mic ("good") and the show sounded like a donkey's but after going though the garbage disposal behind the local Taco Bell on the e-coli days. And I have managed to get very good sound out of my NTG-1 (same as NTG-2 but no battery chamber, and about $20 less)...

As the guys here put it not to long ago when I asked for their help and guidance... the operating is incredibly important, position position position, and accessories help a ton too... a good shock mount will make your boom operating life easier, so on and so forth...
gimme a sec and I'll try to post some sound clips... (but keep in mind I just started my audio life)

I am not saying it is a good clip or a good example or a clip that shows what the mic can or cannot do,
just a clip that IMO sounds good. These are not modified it any way.

This is in a loft type living room, wooden ceiling wide open space, sitting on a couch, I think the mic was
about 3ft. from her mouth from under.

This is in a closet full of clothes, speaking straight into the mic from 2 ft. away,
the mic had foam and a furry on it, left them on to see what would happen.

Yes, I've use the me66, senn 416, AT 4071b, got the NTG-2 and for the price it performed closer to the 416, and 4071, it blew the 66 away! sell the 66 and buy the Rode.

It's funny u know, I called up a few of the local guys "videoguys, videocraft" and told them i wanted the rode and i'd swap my me66 for it! They both gave me the "Are you serious?" And told me why would i wanna downgrade! They said they sell a shitload of me66's and ppl love em, I'm confused! i've read all the crap that's been hung on this mic, But why would these guys tell me this when none of them sold it to me so it's not like their trying to avoid a return!

Contact Tony Carrison at Carrison Sound www.carrisonsound.com here in Las Vegas he'll give you a straight answer. carrisonsound@cox.net Tony has forgotten more about audio than most of us know and he supplies pro location sound gear every day to working sound professionals. He's a small shop and a valuable resource, don't waste his time playing price games with B&H or whoever. He'll be fair and you can learn from him.

I don't know about great but I'm happy for now, lol
We r just bouncing around testing tinkering and whatnot, we put/are putting together our first scene... but the acting sux a$$ cause we came up with the idea late the night before we got our media to be able to record, we went to sleep at 4 am and woke up at 11 in the morning to do it, so I literally wrote it down in no time a, and we were creating it when we were supposed to be focusing on the technical side, kinda like a job with a director on major drugs or something, and only about 5 hours of sunlight to get it.... no tripod, only two of us, and no clue as to what we were doing with all of these tools that we never owned before, just worked with people who use them, so the acting s-u-x needless to say, oh, and my first "real" editing job too...lol
the microphone...? I would be banned from the audio section if I did this on purpose, it was all over the place, many times like 6 feet from talent, leaning against a wall on the boom pole, all by itself, still... however, the few that had actual microphone placement: they sound great... very happy, very thankfull for the advice given to me here, weeeeeeeeeeeell worth the $250...
we'll have a chance to re-record some shots, that will be easier, we are just matching, so I'll be able to focus on place it at an acceptable distance, and also, I'll be able to boom on a few, yay! Boom operators are the coolest dudes on set, always, I wanna be cool to, lol
once we are done with this test scene, though I should just trash it, we'll have an extra set of hands or two to do things right on our projects...

So if you are interested in finding out how the NTG sounds from 6 feet away you can take a look at the atrocity we call "Vacation" on YouTube under Roberto Lequeux

hahahah. pretty cool roberto. tell that b*^*%$^ to keep in line and get you a beer. (and by the way, that wasn't a corona she got you. she'll pay for that)
just kidding. good work. still have some stuff to work out, but boy, pretty good for a first time. Keep up the good work guys. :)

I'll post it on the footage section after we reshoot and right before I trash it, so what's going on with the swap? r u getting the Rode?

Nope! i'm keeping the 66, i'm gonna use it and be happy with it...LOL. Thanks so much for all the feedback guys, appreciate it!
