out of synch audio track on DVDA

Hi all,

Been using Vegas since version 3 and have only praises for this amazing NLE. Only time i got cornered was a capture problem some months ago that i posted here and was resolved immediately with the generous help of kind folks in this community. People, I can never thank you enough but here i am again:

I have assembled a 30 minuter docu project with 4 audio tracks; 1 each for Interviews, ambient, narration and finally the music. My edit went smooth and without glitches until i prepared the project on DVDA and previewed.
All the audio and video tracks synched except for the narration. The track's 'clips' lagged progressively; 5 seconds at the beginning, slipped 20 in the middle and got worst to about 38 seconds delay in the ending clip.

Narration was recorded in a studio but was sent to me on a CD as WAV file. I dumped it in my HD before i started editing/sweetening it inside Vegas.

I've always 'played it by ear' with audio, meaning i never got beyond tweaking volume, channel pans, basic noise reduction, reverb and EQ to enhance my sound. Im into Vegas because itis perfect for people like me who cuts away mostly guided only by sheer common sense and personal style. Sorry but its my best way (or excuse) to say im no techie and im dumbstuck with this project.

I've seached the posts here and in the audio forum and have not found anything like this experienced by anybody.

I'd be very grateful if anybody can at least explain what's happening.

thanks

Sounds like when I tried to render out to 24fps when I should have been at 30fps NTSC. Timeline looked okay, but each and every render was FUBAR.

Good times, good times.

When you play the project out on your Vegas timeline, is the synch OK?

WoW, That as quick! Thank you. The answer is Yes, it played ok on the timeline. The test DVD i burned (rendered MPEG 2 in Vegas, DVDA renders or rerenders audio) consistently played it the way DVDA did it. that is, well; Out of Synch.

My timeline is 30fps NTSC although i think i have about 10% PAL footage mixed in. Can that be the problem? I can understand if it is if not all the other video/audio tracks synched .

I forgot to say also that the WAV narration file is just 6 minutes in length that i chopped up and spread out to fill the whole project.

I havent seen any others workflow or timeline in Vegas so i dont have a reference but thats how i do mine, a lot of emphasis on simplicity that up to now have worked flawlessly for more than 3 years. Viva Vegas!

When you render, use the DVD Architect templates, and render the audio separately. Use a loop region on your timeline to ensure that the video and audio clips are exactly the same.

Thanks David,
Do you mean i render first as AVI first in Vegas then RE-render MPEG 2 in DVDA? Isnt that another compression stage that i can do well without? I know its been asked and answered before (since First Edtion of Vegas but i have this debilitating case of Short Memory Retention, I'm an Idiot)

i used to do it AVI first when its necessary for me to have a Tape master and backup in my HD but for this project, at least in its first assembly form; i go straight to DVD for client approval/revision/spike.

I think the looped region only rendering is already the default in my projects.

I'll try an AVI render now. I have a strong feeling you are right. But how can you not be?

thanks again!!!

No. Not AVI. That'll probably make the problem worse because there will be more for DVD Architect to re-render.

Render the video using a DVD Architect template under MPEG-2. Don't change anything. This will render without audio.

Then, render the audio -- use the same loop region -- as either AC-3 or PCM (wav).

Render these to the same folder. When you drop the video into DVD Architect, the audio should be drawn in automatically.

If you render as PCM, be sure that the DVD Architect project is PCM audio. If you render as AC-3, make sure it's AC-3.

Ok. not AVI. perfect because my video drive is bursting. I'll do it now. You are always the MAN. Thanks a lot!!!!!
