A truly portable FCP MacBookpro?

Editing on a MBpro requires an external hard drive (especially for HD).
How does one go portable with the FW cable, hard drive, and Hard drive power supply?
Is there a FW drive out there that is battery powered, that is adequate for 720/24pn video?

Ideally, it be great if there was a laptop-pad with battery and drive integrated - just plug the FW card into the charged laptop pad, and be truly portable - does it exist???

There are bus powered FW drives out there. G-Tech sells the G-Raid mini. But I don't know if it will work for DVCPRO HD. And it will drain your computers battery really fast. So you wouldn't get that much editing time...30-min to an hour, max.

You will need to plug in the laptop anyway, so why not get a powered drive and bringa power strip. Only two plugs.

If youre only capturing to this laptop, then an external hdd isnt necessary. I find capturing to the internal hdd is fine, then offload the clips through my network.

ncje...You cannot capture DVCPRO HD to the internal drive on a Laptop. You might get away with DV, but not HD. That and the VERY small amount of hard drive space makes it unviable.

My quest is to work totally portable without being tethered to a wall plug.
A laptop pad with a hard drive, and battery. Something like this..

McGee...that is a great link. new hard drive, and a case to put your Superdrive into.

Sweet!

Although 160GB is next to nothing in terms of DVCPRO HD space...But I like that solution...

There are two things I don't like about adding the MCE internal drive. One, the battery life would definitely be affected adversely, and two, the maximum size of the drive (160gb) is just too small and too expensive.

"MCE OptiBay 160GB/5400RPM Hard Drive for MacBook/MacBook Pro 15-inch $479.00 "

I think the idea of adding a high capacity battery and a 500gb drive into a laptop pad would work much better for going completey cordless/mobile. The question still remains,, does it already exist? Otherwise, I'm off on the DIY path.
