Pro Tools HD and FCP on Mac Pro?

I'm upgrading my studio. I've been using a Pro Tools Mix Plus System for years, now it's time to upgrade. I'll be using a Mac Pro for Pro Tools HD.

My question: Would there be a problem with upgrading FCP and using it on the same computer as Pro Tools HD? (NOT running them at the same time.)

I've always used Pro Tools on a dedicated computer. The old Pro Tools Mix Plus system is so finicky, once you get it running smoothly you leave it alone. (I always had to defrag every other day). I will still be using FCP Studio on my powerbook but I planned on upgrading before March... Im just not prepared to shell out for 2 Mac Pro's at this time.

Thanks.

I run PT HD3 and FCS on a Dual 2.0 G5. In fact, I run them at the same time frequently with no issues. I do have 4gb of ram, so that helps with both apps at the same time. I would assume things would be smooth on a new Mac Pro that has probably twice the power. My Mix system was never very flakey, but I didn't really push it and I never had any of the SCSI stuff that seemed to be the source of many of the issues. You will love the HD system, btw. The ADC alone is probably worth the upgrade.

You might want to hold off until NAMM in a couple weeks, you never know if Digi will come out with new hardware.

I only wish I could run my HD system on my MacBook Pro, it smokes my DP G5 :)

Well, time to sit back and watch the Digi haters pile on the thread about how overpriced it is, and how X is sooooo much better! *snore*

I'd also wait until Jobs' keynote at Macworld next Tuesday to see if they tweak the Mac Pros or announce the next version of FCP, which is expected this year.
