Who's planning to sell their entire collection?

I sold all of movies my DVD's except for a few that are difficult to find, expecting to purchase the high definition versions of the movies.

Do you guys think it is better to invest in HD DVD or Blu Ray?

Yeah, I'm waiting it out, it's another Beta VS VHS, CD-R VS CD+R war that will all end in tears. I have a feeling in a year or so there will be players that play both formats and then maybe I'll consider it. But since you all ready sold your DVDs... well, I'd probably go with HD DVD, so far it looks like it has a slightly bigger selection.

I've been unimpressed with the quality of both formats. It's better yes, but not better enough to justify the cost. I'll stick with my regular DVDs.

I agree. I'm not replacing the movies I currently own. Way too many for not much of a quality increase.

I actually bought one of those up-rezzing dvd players, the Samsung one.

No idea if it actually does uprez, or merely it brightens everything... but either way I'm quite happy with the result.

(now maybe this has to do with the fact I own a 42" Panasonic Vierra 1080p but haven't used anything true HD yet)

The uprezzer seems to do quite well with newer movies, especially colorful films. There is sometimes strong pixelating in the background, or in dark noisy scenes, but overall it's re-energized my dvd colloection as I've started going through my whole collection watching them all over again.(*I watch them in 1080p mode. Don't notice a difference in any other mode*)

I doubt I'll get rid of my collection... if there's films I get tired of maybe, but I usually only own movies I really like so it's more about the collection/hobby than it is keeping pace with the new technological advances.

I won't be going HD with my collection anytime soon. I think video on demand will totally cut off both formats at the knees. I'm more interested in a VOD pay service like netflix where I download movies over highspeed cable. I don't need a wall of films, a warehouse of films should do just fine...

I still have my laserdiscs... so I'll probably not be letting go of the DVDs anytime soon either.

I *like* the wall.

I have about a 1,000 DVD's. The thought of starting over in HD gives me the shakes.

Yeah, I'm only about half of that but it still makes me throw up a little to think of replacing all of them (especially the ones that I had to import from other countries). But really, I watched a DVD on a 61" HD TV (I admit with a DVD player that upconverted) a while back and it looked amazing ( a lot better then some theaters I've been in).
