Anyone use final cut and previously use vegas?

I've moved to Final Cut at home but i still really enjoy many of the aspects of vegas. Specifically ease of dissolves by overlapping clips and ease of time remapping. Does anyone know if there are any plugins for FCP that let you add dissolves like in vegas? Or are there any plugins for FCP or AE that allow time remapping like its done in vegas?

FCP has a time remapping tool that is very easy to use.
Not familiar with Vegas, what specifically about applying an transition in Vegas are you looking for?

FCP does have compositing tools tha Vegas sorely lacks, too.

yes i agree, final cut has a number of features that vegas lacks. Thats why i decided to switch to final cut. But there are still a few features that were so easy to use on vegas and are lacking or difficult to use in fcp. On vegas you have a line that runs through the center of your clip on the timeline. Much like a levels line on an audio clip. You can click right on the line and place keyframes. If you slide the line up your speeding up the playrate, if you slide it down you are slowing it down. So you can place keyframes and easily slide them around to speed up or slow down any clip. Also you can click the end of a clip and hold cntrl and drag it back and forth. Instead of just shortening or lengthing the cliip it will remap the speed to fit the same clip in the new shortened or lengthened amount of time.

FCP does this, too, just the controls are slightly different. There is a speed ramp tool that can be used in the Timeline window directly. There is a pen tool to do keyframes directly in the Timeline window. You just need to get the book and learn it. But FCP can do the same thing.

I'm still wondering about your "ease of disolves" comment. Again, I'm not familiar with Vegas, but I do teach "experienced" professional FCP editors, and am constantly shocked by how many of FCP's tools they don't know about.

Simple Crossfade

Simple Crossfade

The easy crossfades he's talking about .... you dont actually have to apply crossfades in Vegas. You can just click on the upper corner of the clip in the timeline and you can adjust the fade. If you want to crossfade clips, you just move one clip into the other and they automatically crossfade. It's real simple. In FCP, you have to place 2 clips close together and then either drag the crossfade over from the transitions menu or press ctrl+T to apply the crossfade.

So, if you want to overwrite part of one clip with the head or tail of another in Vegas, it will automatically crossfade them anyway? Can you turn that off?
