"We Were Soldiers" -- best 'Nam Film Ever?!? O-kayeeee ...

You really should see these films:

Apocalypse Now
The Deer Hunter
Full Metal Jacket
Platoon

 :D Someone got that

Hostel sucked. Roth is a hack.

I think I could handle being called a hack if I was in Roth's shoes. If Hostel 2 is a monetary success, it'll just keep opening more and more doors for him and he'll be a working director for the next 10 years.

This thread has been a great read!!

My vomit film is, and has been for a while:

The Crow 3 - Wicked Prayer.

Don't ever watch it, ever, save yourselves.

And Shaun of the Dead is great! Can't wait for Hot Fuzz!!

Zak, I totally agree on Glazer..... LOVE his non-feature work..... some of his shorts and commercials are simply f**king amazing, his features (sexy beast/birth) are just ok IMO.... they arent completely horrible but they definitely dont have that holy sh*t factor that his other work has

movies that I would rather up chuck on than watch again....

hmm.... well I dont really watch a ton of movies unless I REALLY REALLY wanna see them, so my list probably isnt too big/long

Armageddon
Pearl Harbor
Alexander
LOTR trilogy
some random harry potter flick
the matrix trilogy
iggby goes down
garden state
alien vs predator
some random horror movie about crazy hillbillies that kill teens (that hot chik eliza dusku sp?? was in it)
the texas chainsaw massacre remake (totally not into this neo snuff horror sh*t)

those come to mind.....

but for the most part, if I'm sitting down watching a feature film, I really really wanna see it and I usually aint that let down cuz I'm pretty picky

Loved Shaun...

Don't get the perception on WWS... my cousin thinks that's the best nam movie ever also... I couldn't get past things like fake blood drops on the glass protecting the camera... with the drops even running down etc. Any movie that carelessly breaks the illusion destroys whatever feeling I had going... another pet peeve is lens flares that seem totally unacceptable... in the original Transporter at the end the whole last scene is DESTROYED with lens flare that you can hardly even SEE through! WTF?

I'll take a feather down the throat over anything Segal ever did... and I guess it's a classic, but I get anxiety attacks about life passing me by if I have to watch Deliverance.

haha

Deliverance was a fun flick, sooooo many bands have used samples from that flick

oh, I had to watch Existenz (? the one with jude law) in a film class once, GOD BLESS, that movie was crap....... sooooo bad

if you have ever bothered to even peek at my threads/posts, then you'd know that I have in fact screened a film or 2 (hundred thousand) in my time.

Best 'Nam Film Ever!

I love "We Were Soldiers" and wanted to share a story about a man I was lucky to be friends with, Rick Rescorla.

RickRe1.jpg

If you've ever read the book, Rick is the man on the cover, he is also one of the major characters of the story. Which is fitting, as he was a real character in life too. What many people don't know is, he was a film lover and a screenwriter (and very talented at that).

If you have a couple of minutes and want to read about a real american hero (and I don't throw those words out lightly), check this out: http://www.rickrescorla.com/

If you have a few more minutes, give these a read as well: http://www.rickrescorla.com/Get the books.htm

LOL -- your link doesn't work, so I guess you haven't seen many films.

Yes, I'm well aware that you love your movies and OF COURSE you have seen these films:

Apocalypse Now
The Deer Hunter
Full Metal Jacket
Platoon

BUT ... if you think "We Were Soldiers" is the best 'Nam film ever, then you really need to watch these films AGAIN:

Apocalypse Now
The Deer Hunter
Full Metal Jacket
Platoon

"We Were Soldiers" was so Hollywood and cornball and cheezy it was sad. "Signs" in the jungle. Just lots of running around, confusion, looking for the "alien", with a good dose of bad acting (in the style of M. Night Shyamalan). Mel Gibson playing John Wayne. No thanks.

Come on now.... Let's not bicker and fight over who killed who. We all know the greatest war movie was Saving Ryan's Privates'.

This is about movies that make you want to blow chunks of last weeks breakfast!

With that said I would like to nominate all Bollywood movies as films I would rather squirt painfully out of my nether orifices than watch a single minute.

Down with Bollywood.

Coming Home & Jacob's Ladder are wonderful Vietnam aftermath films, although quite different in tone.

As far as greatest war films...my favorites are The Grand Illusion and The Thin Red Line.

We Were Soldiers is too Hollywood for me.

I was so happy when he got the pen in his throat, one less person to have dialogue in that movie was a good thing.

Red eye was terrible. I can't believe I got suckered into seeing that movie in the theatres on a date... I walked out of domino a couple weeks after that too.. too much flashy cutting trying to be all "new age editing" ... blaaaaaah

and 2 other comments

shaun - ROCKS!!!
best nam movie is apoco now. If you've watched and dont think so.. watch it again.. than watch it again.. than read hearts of darkness... than watch it again.. than watch the documentary.. than watch it again

than you might begin to understand it ... although my pov might be skewed I just wrote a 22 page thesis on the film, but it really is so deep and amazing..

my 2 cents..

Why is being Hollywood such a terrible thing in some eyes?
Mark my words...
I can't bloody wait till my films & I are considered "so Hollywood"!
I cannot think of a more flattering compliment.
