Mac Pro and FCP and HDV: what is a good card to work in RT?

Hi, I know if I like to work in RT with HDV I have to purchase a dedicated card and to make a RAID (I like RAID5).
Can you tell me which card works fine with Mac Pro and FCP?
I know Kona 3 is fine to work in RT with Mac Pro.
I will work in Pal system. If I had not to purchase that Kona 3 card, can you tell me if I will work enough fine with HDV?
I make documentaries only.
Thanks

YOu don't need a card for working with HDV. You can capture it and work with it fine, and many effects are RT. The slowness happens when you need to encode it for DVD, or output it back to tape, or render big sections of footage.

But what many people opt to do is capture HDV as DVCPRO HD and work in that codec, which is MUCH EASIER to work with. For that you need the Kona LHe, not the Kona 3. The Kona LHe connects to an HDV deck via component cables, where the Kona 3 lacks that option...it is SDI only.

As for a RAID, you don't need one for either codec. HDV has the data rate of DV, and DVCPRO HD roughly twice to three times that. Both will work fine off internal SATA drives (Raided or not). So just get more internal drives in your MacPro. Use one for the OS, and use the other 3 for your media. Raid them or not...but raiding them would be a good decision.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I'm sorry, I am a newbie and I don't know Mac. I don't understand when you tell me the slowness happens when you need to encode it for output it back to tape. What do you mean precisely? Doesn't FCP work in RT?
Have I to render the clips on the Timeline?

If I will make a RAID 5, will FCP work faster than without RAID? What RAID do you advice me?
Thanks again
