Fantasic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

My wife is a slavering Ioan Gryffud fan (made me sit through 'King Arthur' twice, fer crying out loud) so I expect I'll probably *have* to see it.

I mean, how mentally deficient do you have to be, to cast Jessica Alba in a movie where she gets naked, but turns invisible in the process?!

You kidding me? Fantastic Four was one of THE worst superhero movies I've ever seen... the acting was laughable, effects cheesy. X-Men 1 and 2 were great Superhero movies, as was Batman Begins.
 
Doesn't save it...but maybe cushions the crash landing just a little bit.

I admit that superheroes aren't my thing, so the genre doesn't move me, in general, unless the film transcends it and is just-plain good, without the qualifier of being a good superhero piece.
 
I think that trailer looks awesome. I am a HUGE fan of the effects. I am absolutely sure, though, that this one will be just as unwatchable as the first.

As for superhero films being bad, while they tend not to be the most well executed genre, there are some good ones. Spidey 1 for example, as well as X1. However there are plenty of suckies.

And really, how is one to respond to Brandon's post. I must be on a different planet where Jessica Alba is smokin hot. I will avoid Mr. Rice's planet.

(Please dont read this thread and think that I think F4-2 will be a good or even watchable movie. Sure I'll watch it, but I'll hate myself for it both during and after. And then I'll go try to watch The Good German again and shoot myself.)

Sorry. Sometimes the residual brain damage from those Trek shows oozes to the surface.

the first one sucked. plain and simple. but... i gotta admit, the silver surfer looks pretty bad ass in the previews... just picking the Human Torch up and dropping him from space at the snap of a finger was pretty cool. the film overall... probably crap. i wanna see the silver surfer though
 
Yeah, that looks pretty dumb. Refresh my memory: Is silver surfer supposed to be T2?

P.S. - I too live on the "Alba is hot" planet. B-man, you like movies about Gladiators?

They all suck.

X Men has been surprisingly fun; the new Batman has been waaay better than the other ones, the Hulk sucked, the new Superman sucked, Spiderman is grossly overrated ....

Some are okay; but does anyone take these films seriously ? F4 sucked ? How was it any better or worse than the other crap ?

The last good superhero film was Superman (Donner's)
