Pan's Labyrinth

I was going to post a thread like this earlier, but I actually had stuff to do at work today. :crybaby:

It looks good, I have been paying attention to this for a while now. I just hope its better then Blade2 or Hellboy, but Del Toro's The Devil's Backbone was pretty good, one of my better blind buys and for $5.

Yeah, I thought Blade 2 and Hellboy were terrible. Even the Devil's Backbone, I thought, was overhyped. It felt scattered and a bit too odd. I have to admit, though, that this trailer intrigued me. And it's gotten some excellent buzz on the internet. But I'm wondering if it's just a great movie if you love Del Torro, or if it's a great movie period. I'm hoping the latter, but I will wait til "real" people start seeing it before I decide to spend ten bucks.

If you think about it Blade 2, and Hellboy were directing, assignments. The Devil's Backbone, was fairly low budget. It seems with Pan's Labyrinth, he's finally been given creative liscence and a budget to realise his vision. With a strong narrative, and content I'm excited to see what he can pull off.....

Ok time to watch the trailer again.

Just thought I'd resurrect this one. I can't wait to see this. Not only is it getting amazing reviews, but all my friends who caught this at a film festival last year have said it's on their list of favorite films.

I think Guillermo Del Toro is one of the more creative filmmakers working today. He's big budget but his work is still personal at the same time.

Four days...

I love Guillermo! Not only is he a kick ass director, he's the coolest, nicest guy(my opinion from seeing all his behind the scenes stuff.)

Pan's is the 3rd film in a loose trilogy of what I'll call "gothic fairytales". Treat yourself by seeing:

1)Cronos

and most importantly:

2)The Devil's Backbone

along with Pan's.

i saw it. It is great. In fact after the movie he came out and answered question. I'll post pics later.

I've been really excited to see this. I thought this was going to be the greatest week in film for me with this and Children of Men.....

However I just realized childen of men isn't playing anywhere around me. damn it.

Great film IMO, and I typically don't care much for fantasy. A very dark story with moments of intense violence and other moments of exquisite beauty. I loved that this film moved at calm pace and seemed very confident of itself. No unnecessary flashy editing or goofy over-the-top action sequences. I thought this was both a great war film and a great fantasy movie.

I'm sure it will be distributed to a wider release soon. I saw a noon showing here in Chicago and the theater was packed (granted it was new year's day.)

NEW YORK (AP) - "Pan's Labyrinth," a gothic fairy tale directed by Guillermo del Toro and set against the backdrop of 1940s fascist Spain, was named best picture of 2006 by the National Society of Film Critics at the group's annual meeting.

The film beat out Cristi Puiu's "The Death of Mr. Lazarescu" and Clint Eastwood's "Letters from Iwo Jima" in the group's meeting Saturday at Sardi's restaurant in New York City
