Exporting via Compress to get 16x9 in QT

Hey everyone,

Want a QT movie that shows in 16x9 (or a variation of widescreen) without looking squeezed. This is to display on my website.

Working with 4x3 DVX100 footage that was shot in 16x9 mode (not squeezed) so it had the black bars to start.

I used Compressor the first time and applied the crop function until the black bars were gone. The QT movie came out looking squeezed horizontally with a 4x3 aspect ratio.

I used Compressor again this time checking off "Square" pixel (instead of "Default") and I selected "16x9" in the drop down menu. The QT movie came out looking slightly squeezed in a vertical fashion with the black bars but with a 16x9 aspect ration on the QT window.

Should I combine the two methods? Crop manually to eliminate the bars and then select 16x9 (and Square Pixel) to tell QT to size the window properly?

Advice is welcome.

Remember you need not only to crop out the bars but also to create a final frame size that's 16:9 shaped. For reference, an NTSC frame is normally 720x480. For playback in QT as unsqueezed anamorphic it's approximately 863x480. Keep this in mind.

Thanks Noah. Turns out after an epic-ly long processing, I got it right. For people looking for this later:

I manually cropped the black bars out of my 4x3 image. Then I set it at "Square Pixel" (not sure if that did anything). Then I used the pull down menu and selected 16x9 which told QT to keep the window at 16x9 and not try to squeeze my newly-cropped 16x9 image into a 4x3 image. I also sized it down at 50 or 60% to make the file quicker to download. This was all in Compressor 2.

Thanks.
