hcThe limiting factor in the transfer data rate is primarily the HDD.
Important point to keep in mind. Even though ExpressCard is capable of a theoretical 2.5 gigabits per second (vs. PCMCIA PC Card's 1 gigabit per second) but you have to factor in that even a two-drive RAID of hard disks is only capable of sustaining something like 600 megabytes per second. Firewire 800 will be plenty fast enough.

We could just transfer using the "p2 card" end of the cable on the cineporter though, right? Meaning the end that I would stick in the p2 slot on the camera, I can just stick into my pcmcia slot on my lappy and dump footage that way, or edit straight off the cineporter. Just like p2, I'm assuming.

Removeable HDD? That would be great! Maybe they would be willing to sell a cheaper "bare bones" version as well, if that was the case. One without the HDD's and the user could put the ones they wanted.

But, just having removeable drives would be great. That was a hotly requested item, but never really specified how do-able it was.

Now it look like "Now with Rem...." removeable hard drive?
If that was the case, it would totally kick a**!

Also, the Cineporter used to be referred to as the CP-2, but the box in the Shockwave animation says CP-3. Could there be more than one product?

You know what? For some reason, I am getting the feeling that David, or Andrew or whatever Spec-Comm person, is viewing this thread right now and just smiling.

Or did they put that little animation up, so people would stop asking when they are going to update the cineporter?

I think it's the first one. I bet they are just a smiling away. Knowingly. They know something, and they aren't telling us.

Can we bribe you?

I viewed the source of the page and downloaded the SWF file and opened it in Flash Professional 8 and opened the debugger and listed the variables and found the source FLV file and downloaded that and uploaded it to a web server and used an online FLV converter to make a Quicktime movie from the FLV and then opened that in Quicktime Player. So now I can step back and forth, frame by frame.

And now I am really irritated that I can't make out that fourth letter. "Rem_", something. I'm pretty sure it's a letter after the "m". But there's too much compression and not enough resolution, so it could be a happy face or some kind of schematic of a sausage link. Pretty sure it's a letter, though.

Now, if this were the movies, we could use our special software to remove the cloth entirely and see what's behind it. Oh, and we'd have like 10 times the resolution required to do this. And we could turn the box, too. And open it.
