Hey guys ..

I am going to purchase a hvx200 for which I am primarily going to be working on SD format using miniDV .. I am going to be wroking for Vegas ..

I am building my own system as I have experience in hardware ...

Here's the lowdown ..

Pentium Duo Core 3.0 Ghz
Gigabyte GA-945P-S3 ( Intel 945P+ ICH7 chipset )
NVIDIA GeForce 7600GT GPU ( Gigabyte GV-NX76G256D-RH) 256MB
4 * 1GB DDR Ram Kingmax
160 GB SATA Drive (primary)
2 * 250 GB SATA Drive (Raid Enabled) ( Data Storage )
Windows XP SP2
Sony Vegas 6.0
Standard DVD writer ..

Q1) Does the HVX-200 record mini-dv into MXF Files and DV ? ( ****** Edit : Problem solved please ignore ) (God Bless Ramjet)
Q2) Would I require Raylight ? ( ****** Edit : Problem solved please ignore ) (God Bless Ramjet)
Q3) Will the above system be good enough to start off at ? ( ***Edit : Problem Solved ) (God Bless Ramjet)
Q4) Any recommendations regarding the Video Card ... ? (***** Edit : Problem Solved) (God Bless Ramjet)
Q5) What boosts the PC performance in regards to rendering time ?( Video card or processor ) ( ****** Edit : Problem solved please ignore ) (God Bless Ramjet)

Q5)Do you guys know about any plug-ins I could check out for sony vegas ..

Q6) I also plan to output my images on a monitor .. could you recommend SD monitor model nbr of link ..I would like to show me the images in 16:9 and 4:3 ratio .. Budget - upto 400$ .. ? I am working on PAL

Setting up an optimum PC can be really confusing .. I really would appreciate your support ..

Regards,
Kunal

If you shoot mini dv to tape, then you can edit your footage in vegas as is. You won't need raylight, or anything like that. If you shoot DVCPRO, DVCPRO50, or DVCPROHD, you will be shooting to p2, and will require raylight, cineform, or some 3rd party software to work with your hvx in vegas.

If you are shooting all sd to mini dv, though... Maybe you want to think about the DVX100. For progressive footage in mini dv, there won't really be a diff., from what I understand. But, if you are shooting interlaced, the dvx is going to be better than the hvx in sd mode.

Hey .. thanx for that ..

that is one sure problem solved ..

actually ramjet I am planning on going HD later on in the next year .. plus I have read that the resolution is better in SD format in the HVX because they use native 16:9 CCDs ...

Thanks for you input ..
much appreciated ..

anyone out there to answer the remaining questions ???

You're system looks fine. I don't think the video card plays much of a role in working with footage in Vegas, so just get something decent that has the outputs you want. It's when you are wanting to do 3d stuff, etc. that you need to start looking at "top end" cards, etc.

I would recommend that you get vegas + dvd for dvd architect. It is a great authoring program.
