Hi

Anybody care to recommend a book on cinematography. One that is not just about the basics. Something with great lighting techniques for different looks etc. Havn't found a book on the subject where I'd really felt that I was getting gold...

Thanks!

5 C's is great (especially when they refer to the script supervisor as the "script girl")

I also love "Cinematic Storytelling" - really delved into what shots mean

I would recommend Film Lighting by Kris Malkiewicz as a bible for lightning design, althought its interview form can be a bit frustrating for beginners.

A really nicely done and quite unknowk 'textbook' is Lighting for Film and Digital Cinematography by Dave Viera. Is the closest to a follow-along textbook in dping I've found.

An expensive but marvellous guide is Reflections: Twenty-One Cinematographers At Work by Benjamin Bergery. In its luxurious, full-color pages you'll find a scene in each chapter (most of them from known movies) and their cinematographers recreating them with photos, print lights, lightning diagrams... A true master class.

There's a nice selection in my Amazon Astore Library http://astore.amazon.com/efectpurki-20/102-6147584-5306568?%5Fencoding=UTF8&node=1 you can order from Amazon directly from this link (and do me a favor, since I'll be getting gift certificates for each purchase :) ) or jus pick the ISBN and try to find them second hand in ebay or other bookstores.

Hope this helps!.

Sight Sound Motion: Applied Media Aesthetics
Its the textbook I used for a film class, and covers alot of ground. I personally really enjoyed it.
