David, thanks for an honest answer.Good to hear that's not permanent.I mostly need to play a few LESS then 8 gig clips at a time for client approval.Looking forward to THE best long recording options!

Hi David, thanks for the info you have provided so far.

We're based in Australia, and so have the HVX-202 cameras (PAL, I thinkt he same as the 200E?). You said a while back that the CinePorter will be agnostic regarding PAL / NTSC. Is that still the case?

The Group Buy list is closed -- it was limited to 100 participants. The Waiting List is wide open, you can add yourself to it.

Okay, so I did my latest shoot, and I found another reason to why I am thankful the CinePorter is coming out. I needed to shoot 70mins. But after finishing I realized I had 20 and 30gig CLIPS.. I love backing up via DVD's and the CinePorter will help in what I love :)

Yes you should be able to.

Hmm...so if we can play what we record through the component out like P2, we can record back to the Cineporter from FCP via firewire too? If it's just like P2 it should no?

With all that space we'd be able to laydown one hour+ HD content and play it back from the camera+cineporter. This would be great for presentations or even taking stuff to dub houses.

Please tell me this would work... :D

The Cineporter will act as a p2 card does, so you "should" be able to do everything that you can do with a p2 card in the camera.

Who knows, maybe even a few other things too, but we are all waiting for the updates. One can't say for certain until the product is actually out. But if you can do it with p2, you will most probably be able to do it with the Cineporter.

Thanks,
Jason

Why not skip the camera and just write your file directly from your computer to the Cineporter? You can still play it back through the camera.

Hey guys,

Right now you can only play back a continuous clip up to 8GB. We are working on extending that to the full size of the CinePorter™

Doesn't FCP allow you to export P2 format to a disk?

I wouldn't consider P2 a format. It's a medium with it's own filing structure when used with Panny Products. And to answer your question...no. You need to record to the camera via firewire if you wanna go back to P2 from FCP.

FCP doesn't allow that, as of 5.1.2. EDIUS does, and you can use Raylight's "P2 Maker" program to do it, but both of those are on the PC.

So I thought I would give you guys a small BUT GREAT (big to the people this will affect) news.

The GroupBuy list is being extended to allow the WaitingList to be added to the Group Buy List, and will recieve the same discount. The list will also be allowed to grow up to 200.

SO SIGN UP.

Sign Up thread located in the Sticky properly named :)

A question and a feature request for version 2(!):

Q. What is the discount on the newly combined group buy and waiting list?

Request: Seeing as the theoretical transfer rate of the Express/32 slot in a MacBook Pro is a lot faster than Firewire 800, it would be amazing if we could get higher data rates by plugging a SATA to P2 connector cable into a Sonnet Tempo SATA Express ExpressCard34 to get transfer rates of 100+MB/s.

So unplug the connection to the HVX200 and plug a new cable in to transfer hours of footage in minutes...

hcBeck,

The discount is 10 %

Thank you for the request. The limiting factor in the transfer data rate is primarily the HDD.
