Will cell phones really fry my head?

I'm probably the only person in the country that still doesnt have a cell phone. It is not because of the supposed harm they might do...but because I didnt really have any money to buy one...or to pay the bill.

I was thinking of asking for one for christmas...and was reading up on it and then came across some page telling about the dangers of continued exposure to radio frequency waves. It mentioned testing they did on rats and how just like smoking was once thought to be harmless...alot of todays cell phone users would be getting tumors in 30 to 40 years...since the effects of them are largely untested. That would really be something...a whole generation or two with brain cancer.

Does anyone on here have any thoughts on that? I dont necessarily believe the stuff I read, just wondering what your opinions are.

I in a way believe it...yet am not going to give up my cell phone....

I have heard that the worst ones were the older cell phones- non flip style that had the antenna straight up near your head. I heard the newer phones angle the antenna out to combat that....and then a phone like the one I have, doesnt even have an antenna anymore.

I know it was big news back years ago, the dangers of the cell phone. The only reason I think that it probably is a truthful statement or whatever is b/c the cell phone biz is SO BIG right now that they can pretty much pay their way out of bad publicity in my opinion.

The only thing is....it hasnt really appeared in mass yet. Cell phones have about 10 years of HEAVY use by a large portion of users, so in the next 5 or so years Im sure if people were going to develop problems, it would start to show up. I find it hard to believe cancer needs 30 years to develop, especially with day to day contact.

With that being said, if you can live without the cell phone, Id highly suggest it. Im not a huge fan of mine anymore, b/c people have constant access to you, like work etc. I love taking vacations where my phone simply doesnt work, its very refreshing!

I think the bigger issue here is your budget. I find it semi hard to believe that you cant allocate 30/month if needed. Im not saying you should get a phone, just think you blow 30/month on things and dont realize it.

Feh. Tumors aren't the problem. It's the RF interfering with the normal electrical activity of the brain that is the real cause for concern.

You must have noticed by now how cell phone use turns people into freaking morons.

Cell phones and cigarettes don't cause cancer, Lab Rats cause cancer. Chat away!

Seriously though, unless you spend an extreme amount of time of the phone, you should be ok. It's the people that use their cell like a life support system that are at risk.

I once saw some consumer-advocate-type person demonstrating the 'safe' way to use a cell phone (holds it next to her ear, tilted at about maybe 10 degrees).

Then she rotates the phone by about another five degrees, holding it in the same position - "now, holding it *this* way, will increase your chances of developing a brain tumor, by as much as fifteen percent..."

I use an earpiece and keep the rest of the gizmo as far from my head as possible. Always have. The first day I used a cell phone (the usual way) I noticed that it was feeding back into my alien brain implant, something awful.

One of my father's friends who is a doctor told me this:

if it was true that cell phones caused brain tumors you would see a rapid rise in brain tumors in the scandinavian countries. this is because cell phones have been in widespread use in these countries since the mid-90s which means people have had a good 15 years to "fry" their brains. No such rise has taken place. in fact apart from cell phone related deaths caused by driving while on the phone, walking into the street while on the phone, bicycling while on the phone etc cell phones have not been shown to cause any adverse effects. oh I forgot to mention hearing loss.

this is typical public paranoia. comes from the same people who claim the government inplants you with tracking devices when they give you a vaccine.

think about it this way: if it was true that people were getting brain tumors because of cell phones, don't you think the news media would be all over it?

We've got a new high-power urban wireless video transmission system mounted on our newsvans. The antenna is about the same size as a cellphone, and so is the frequency ( 2ghz.). In fact, it's even closer to the microwave frequency. We measured the EM output, and as long as we stay at more than 1ft from the antenna, we *should* be alright.

Our rough calculation ( transmitted power X bandwidth) puts it at an equivalent of about 2.000 cellphones operating at full power at the same time. Somehow, I'm worried...

Hey, I spent 11 years working around equipment that necessitated us seeing the doc every year to be checked for cataracts.

But the only thing odd we ever noticed was that everyone who had a kid, had a boy.

And Bridget...well. She went a little overboard. Over 13 lbs worth of baby boy.

We predicted she'd never let her husband touch her again.

The power outputted from Cell phones can not really cause any short term health effects[1].

And no, its not uncommon I have a close friend who still does not use his cell phone, he only switches it on to make calls (and that is very rare), allthough I have shown him documents that show the exact power transmitted by cell phones he still has his doubts and prefers to not use cell phones on a full time basis. There is so much RF radiation out there, TV, radio, Wifi, Power Cables, etc... worrying about the tiny RF from your Cell phone is a tad over reactionary.

I once read an article about all the things that cause radiation and how much. xrays, cigarettes, etc.

I also believe I read in that same article that cellphones use a different type of microwave or whatever it is that they use, then the one that can promote cancer.

cigarettes were like 16k something. xrays were way below that. Microwaves (the kind you cook with) were below that.
