MXO vs VGA - for monitoring video in FCP

I posted this in the FCP area, but no one replied.

QUESTION: How much of an improvement would the MXO out to an HD TV be over a second dedicated VGA monitor?

I was considering the MXO for monitoring the fcp canvas while editing - using an HD Sony WEGA TV (HD component).

I am currently using a Dell 2405 (24inch) via the VGA second port on my Macbook pro, just the canvas (full screen) .

I use the MXO to drive an Apple Cinema Display 23" and it works great. I have never hooked it up to an HDTV so I'm not sure how well it would work.

Your Dell 2405 has full 1080+ resolution so it would work but I've heard that the Dell has issues. Whatever you use, I think you should be connecting from the MXO DVI out to a 1080 res or greater display for pixel accurate montoring rather than component to a 720 HDTV. The component out on the MXO is really meant for going out to a deck.

I am using a Dell 2405 to monitor through the MXO and am having no issues at all.

I think the issues with the dell have arisen when using the VGA input.

Here is a thread that I started a while back regarding the MXO and monitor choices. Which is why I said the Dell had issues. I haven't used it myself but others have reported not liking it. Some do like it as well.

I use the Apple 23" and it is excellent.
