UHF Micro 32 with AT803b lav

Hi, I was wondering about this AudioTechnica mic (AT803B) and the power module that came with it (AT8531). http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...ls&Q=&sku=68272&is=REG&addedTroughType=search

I want to use it with the Samson T32 Transmitter. However when I plug just the mic into the mini-XLR input, and have the receiver connected to the camera via the "out unbalanced" with a transformer balanced adapter cable (1/8" output to balanced XLR input) I don't get any sound. When I use the suppplied lav with the Samson transmitter, I get sound.

1) The Samson receiver has a mini-XLR "Balanced output" Can I plug a mini-XLR here to XLR input on the DVX100B? When should I use these transformer balanced cables?

2) Do I Have to use the power module with the AT803B lav mic? I'd rather not have my talent wear more than one "little black box" than they have to. I guess one option is to tape the transmitter to the power module and then have them drop it into their pocket...but it gets a little bulky

Forgive my newbish questions! Thanks!

Not familar with any of those items but lav mics need power just like any condenser mic. You can get this to them from a power module that is being fed phantom or battery power or thru your wireless transmitter. Each brand of transmitter has different wiring requirements for getting the right power to your mic. Make sure you mic is wired up to be used with the transmitter you will be using

Good luck

yep , different wiring
you can rewire the mic so it would work directly and rewire the power module box inside to be working with the lav of you want work with phantom from the camera .
next time check in the store before you actually buy:-)

Bottom line is a transformer transforms alternating current. Audio is an alternating current signal so the transformer does a fine job of adjusting input/output voltages and impedences (a/c resistance). Unfortunately, a transformer cannot pass direct current through it. Your wireless transmitter puts out phantom power for the condensor microphone. And you guessed it - phantom power is direct-current, so it can't go through a transformer to power the condensor microphone.

I did! Well I didn't actually check but I was told they would work. Looks like I'll be returning these mics....

Thanks for the help!
