OK, so here are the details, fine print, and all that jazz:

Shooting / Submission Period: November 30th-December 13th at 11:59PM EST.
Voting: 12.14-12.17 at 11:59PM
Topic: "Black and White"
Details: This week we are going to do a completely wide open free study with the exception that your final image must be a black and white submission. You choose the subject, the vibe, everything, just deliver a black and white final image
Submit your image, and ONLY THE FINAL ENTRY as Username_BnW.jpg

MISC. DETAILS:
1. There is no original picture required to be submitted
2. You may submit a maximum of 3 entries for this round
3. Voting criteria will be 1. Overall Impression of Image

Very cool. I haven't done a black and white photo since, well, since a long, long time ago.

I'm really looking foward to this one.

Agreed... VERY cool. I don't know what it is lately, but I'm all about some B&W. :)

I might try to do something different with it this time though. I'm not sure what... but I'm definitely in on this one.

Cool, I have a chance to see what my new Evolt 500 can do. Black and white you say...Mmmm!:)
 
i also shoot with an E-500, i like it. Its nice and light and with the 50mm f2 i get some really nice results. Though the kit-lenses are also quite good.
 
I've had mine for about ten hours and already have a major crush on it. Can't wait to get it out in the morning!!

I'm in.

Edit: Maybe not. I've been trying to upload my image for 10 minutes and it just won't go. It keeps saying "contacting stffilms". The image is only about 600k, so I'm not sure what's wrong.

Any suggestions?

Edit: The file finally went up. Hopefully everything is okay.

There were a lot of great photos, but that was definitely my favorite in this round.

Here is my original color photo:

Here was my b/w entry:

This was shot with my Nikon D50 and my 85mm lens. It was lit with one kino placed to the left of the candle. It was converted to B/W in PhotoShop using the channel mixer. I also played with the levels, brightness, and contrast.

Thank you all for sharing your secrets with me. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. :)

Hey great picture cmessineo, I think it looks much better in black and white, especially because the wall became black as well so the lighting looks as if it was completely from the candle. Nice job.


My picture was the one of the chess board, I took it with my grandpa's old 35mm and scanned the print. But I'm getting a Rebel XT pretty soon, so I'm excited and I'll keep entering these contests.

I really liked your picture as well. I thought it had a great mood and told a story (which I like a lot in photos).
