FCP and new mac pro won't recognize cameras!

I just purchased a new Intel Mac Pro to finally make the switch to Final Cut Pro with the intention of using the machine stricktly for editing. I went to capture some footage for the first time yesterday and was unable to get either of my cameras to work. I have both a panasonic gs12 which i use as a deck and tried first and a panasonic dvx100b which i tried second. Neither of the cameras were recognized in FCP. I went into "about this mac" to see if they showed up on my buss and the firewire buss drop down was gone. All it said was "Firewire up to 800m/s". I tried a number of different cables including a firewire 800 to firewire 4pin. None made a difference. I went online and made sure i had all of the latest system updates but still no change. I figured my firewire buss may have come from the factory non-working but for kicks decided to try a firewire external harddrive. That drive was immediately recognized and seemed to work fine. Can anyone give me any advice or point me in any directions before i give up and take this machine back and stick to PC's?

Holy Crap! Someone please figure this out! I just bought a 100b and was planning on ordering a Mac Pro w/FCP. This is my worst nightmare!

I've been tryin to find an answer on apple.com discussions and the reports i'm getting back are that panasonic cameras for whatever reason don't seem to work with the new mac pros. So far thats all i've been able to find are various reports of numerous panny cams not connecting to the new macs, no one seems to have an answer or a clue why. If this is the case i'll be taking a trip to my local apple store to throw my mac pro through the window.

Key word on that is restore i guess. I've never had it connect so i guess i have nothing to restore. I gave it a shot though but still no change.
