A night of firsts

Tonight was a very strange night for me. I've been thinking of going to see a movie all week, and just decided today to go see one. You see, I love movies, but I hate GOING to the movies. Too many people, too many kids, too many distractions, etc. However, I've found a small theatre near me that has nearly NOTHING around it. It's just a movie theatre. It was as close to a private screening as one could hope for. No more than 15 people in the movie. All adults. What a pleasure!

Tonight was the first night I've gone to see a movie I knew nearly nothing about. I had heard it was technically excellent, and well done. The subject matter didn't really interest me, so it allowed me to focus on the filmmaking. I learned many things tonight that will help me in my own movie making.

Tonight was the first night I watched the ENTIRE movie. All the way through ALL the credits.

Tonight was the first night I've actually gone to the bookstore looking for magazines about filmmaking. It was cool to see some of the stuff out there for independents, even at my small town bookstore.

Tonight was the first time I actually watched my documentary footage that was shot 3 years ago, on a home TV screen, and not just my broadcast monitor in the studio.

Tonight was the first time I tried to setup my home TV properly, by playing color bars and adjusting as best I could.

DVXUser, and a few other choice sites about digital filmmaking, are changing my life in a positive way. I am pursuing a dream I've had for a long time. I can't afford film school though I'd love to go. But this site and others are educating me and helping me see the world through the camera lens in a much better way.

Thanks to you all.

LOL!! Not a SINGLE comment about anything but "what movie". My storytelling is already improving. Keep them guessing!

I also remember watching all the clips on how they did some of the Star Wars effects, but was, and still am, a Trekkie at heart. Obviously, Lucas wasn't thrilled with SW either, just look at all the changes he made ;)
