2k light on household power?

There are some great responses here, but I am still confused as to which light will be the best investment, If I want to get highest wattage light out of a normal household socket.

I am not a trained gaffer and if I can't just plug the light into the wall, even after checking that it is the only thing being powered by circuit, then I probably should get something less powerful.

Should I just avoid 2k lights unless I really know my $hit?

Will 1.5k work or is 1k the highest worry free wattage?

Will a 2k light run off of the Honda EU line of generators?

My goal is to be able to light at least the side of a building, or some trees, so that I can shoot some exterior night shots, while running the lights from extention cords powered from inside an adjacent house.

Sorry to keep asking but I have never used a light over 650w. Thanks

I've had success in using a 2k light quite a lot. Just know your locations. I'd say that putting in a 1.5k would be a safe bet.. Get a little bulb case and have all 3 ready to go....

I'd say that if you got a 2500 watt genny then you'd be fine. I like them a lot.

As far as using a big light... like before, HMI's are the best but really expensive to own. You can rent them in most towns for a 100 or less but you'll need the insurance.

I prefer the Mole over the Arri. The moles are better built and will take more abuse. You'll LOVE getting the bigger source when you start using it, but it's got some detractors. I'll be getting the Mole next year.

I made the mistake of running two 2k's on one circuit... lol... tripped it needless to say... usually I can run about 1.5k of light on a house circuit without incident... anything more, you're pushing it.

I run 2k's all the time off new and old sockets/wiring. To date, no problems. But every time I plug in, in the older houses, I'm expecting the house to burn down:Drogar-Smoke(DBG):.

Pete.

Ah, the aussie way! :)

We do things this way too over here too... hehehehe

My gaffer specializes in doing street power taps, from the power lines... hehehe, just provide a tall ladder!

(Disclaimer, stuff like that can get you killed or arrested, and probably did that to some people...)
