Favorite movie of all time?

So tough, so tough.

I'd have to say . . . Dark City, wait! No! 12 Monkeys! No. . . , wait. . . Donnie Darko. . . no damn! Can't decide.

I love westerns so "The Outlaw Josey Wales" gets my vote. Alas "Tombstone" lost the coin flip.

Two absolutely great westerns. On my top 100 movies of all time, Tombstone is 5th and The Outlaw Josie Wales is 7th. I don't think any ONE movie had more great lines than Wales...

'Josey Wales' is just *great*. Tough to think of a movie with so many great lines...

*edit* and, I wrote that *before* I saw Blaine's post, heh, heh...

Hey Blaine, did you actually make a list of your top 100?

Tombstone has such great pacing. Never a dull moment(editing) and a masterful scene stealing performance by Val Kilmer. "Josey Wales" moved Eastwood onto my best director list. With films like "Unforgiven" "Mystic River" , "Million Dollar Baby" and "Flags of our Fathers" he continues to impress.

Here's an interesting link on "Tombstone". It turns out that Cosmatos was the ghost director of the film. The original director/writer was fired and Russell actually did the directing. Willam Dafoe was originally going to play "Doc Holiday" ? A lot of interesting tidbits in an interview with Russell http://www.twmag.com/archives/westerns/western-russell_godfather_10_06.htm

It's the casting and dialog that most move me, in 'Josey Wales...'

We went home, and we thought about what that meant, for a long time - "endeavor to perservere." And, when we had thought about it long enough, we declared war on the Union.

Hey, Karl... there is just no underestimating the incredible depth of that story. It is so overlooked, it saddens me.

The opening titles music (the traditional fife-and-drum march) is on my itunes playlist, at work...people keep poking their heads in my office wanting to know where it's from...

Yeah, there's a combination of humor and tragedy and adventure and pathos in that story, that I don't think I've seen in another film, for all that there are equally great and wonderful films out there.

Without a doubt. And no, Part II isn't better, although just as excellent.

Hey, where's the love for the classics??

I have a lot of movies I love but as of late I have been lovin "City of God" for the past couple of years now. And she gives love back.

**edit**

ha, just read through the whole thread...jeez so many of my favorites listed such as Fight Club, Oldboy, Garden State, Being John Malkovich(jeez that was a head trip), American History X...by the way I met the dude that edward norton plays when I was in highschool(8 years ago?), he now speaks against racism to youths.

LOL and Jaws used to be cool until I went and saw the mechanical shark at universal studios 2342542 times. Jaws wasn't all that scary anymore :P.

I have to say Jaws too - it's been my favorite since I was six years old, although I've often wondered how much it has to do with nostalgia. It's probably impossible for me to view it critically at this point. Also..."The shark looks fake"...them's fightin' words.

Anyway, this is my first post; nice to meet you all.

This again?! Okay, I'll play.

Casablanca hands down. Bogart, Rains, Bergman, Paul Henreid, Sydney Greenstreet, Peter Lorre, Dooley Wilson and Rick's Cafe Americain.

Hands down.
