I've been meaning to mention this, but my girlfriend thinks that avatar is the funniest thing ever. Probably has to do with the fact that she lives on a horse ranch. Hmmm.
Also, I'll stick with XP for now...unless the Air Force hooks me up with a free copy of Vista.

I have had a beta of Vista on one of my machines at work for a few months now. Its a nice UI but the beta is still lean in terms of hardware support so I wasn't ready to adopt it across the board. In general it seems to give equal performance to XP Pro in terms of launching typical office applications. There are few "neat features" but nothing that I can't live without. I will likely deploy the release version on one machine, evaluate for after some time, then decide if a company wide deployment is warranted.
PS I find Horse's avatar pretty funny too.

My next upgrade will be a Macbook.
I'm really starting to get sick of MS, and i cant see spending any more money on a product that you have to reload every 6 months to a year to keep it running the way it should.
And i have so many computers anyway that theres no way im gona be able to afford it.

That reminds me i need to reinstall my main system.

Yea, I say let the OS some time to "bed in" so to speak. I think most people will take the "when I buy a new computer " route (which is what I'll end up doing, BUT, if I hate the new OS I can always install XP on it)

I'm going to wait at least a year before adopting Windows Vista and let Microsoft iron out the wrinkles. Plus, I use critical software, such as Avid, that is not yet compatible with a 64-bit environment.
Firefox (over IE for the web)
Ace Utilities (cleans junk files & registry)
Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus
Spybot - Search & Destroy
Ad-aware
Spywareblaster
Microsoft Windows Defender
Windows Firewall (in combination with a hardware firewall such as a router)
All of these are free except for Ace Utilities (which is worth the small fee). These programs will keep your computer safe and trouble-free. But don't forget to defrag your hard drive every so often.

From what I can tell, Vista comes in several flavors ranging from basic to ultimate. It seems basic is around the $100.00 mark and ultimate runs out at $399.00. The other thing I've read is that it is recomended that you have 2 gigs of ram and some are claiming you will need up to 4 gigs to have your vista box perform at peak levels.
When I use my pc, which is very rare, I use windows 2kpro. I hate XP and always have. I know how to use it and am familiar with it but there's something about it that just bothers me. I prefer my g5 and OSX.
On a side note, one of my friends works at microsoft and is programming Vista. He was saying that Micro$oft are building their systems and everything now to be used like a DVR/Tivo and they think that is the way of the future instead of going w/ a DVR/Tivo.
