Shut Up and Sing

I love Kopple and she did a good job with this, even takes a stab at radio in the process. I generally wish celebrities would stay out of politics but I have met the Dixie Chicks several times and they are really fine people, especially Natalie who is a doll and a sweetheart. Imagine having your worst, unthought out utterances, caught on tape and become the very definition of who you are and what you stand for...

amazing documentary!!

amazing documentary!!

I saw Shut and Up Sing last weekend and was totally impressed. Such a well-crafted documentary. I never really listened to Dixie Chicks before, but I will buy every album they ever make and attend every concert they perform in my city. What an amazingly strong group of women.

I LOVE THE DIXIE CHICKS!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing this but my work schedule is crazy right now and I may have to wait until DVD (hopefully not.) Also, good idea to post documentary film discussion here rather than in the general "film discussion" area. I've noticed most doc threads there get lost quickly.

Saw this film today and really enjoyed it. Well-crafted doc. Although I'm from Nashville (the country music capital of the world), I'm not really a Dixie Chicks fan (their music, anyway) but I still loved this film and found a new respect for these women. My respect was more a result of their resolve to stand by one another rather than let individual egos dominate. Highly recommended regardless of your musical tastes.

Well, I finally got to see it today. I'm a fan of the Dixie Chicks and Barbara Kopple so I was expecting to enjoy it and wasn't disappointed. Without going too deep into the politics, I'm also from Texas and share the same sentiment that set off the hysteria.

I don't know if this can be considered a Kopple masterpiece, but I was thoroughly entertained...and outraged. Natalie's feisty personality and the sister "chicks" support for her were captured beautifully. It's so hard these days to find worthwhile fare playing in theatres. I have no regrets seeing this one and I'll probably see it again when it comes out on DVD.
