Hello All!

My name is Jared, this is my first post in the DVX Forum! Of course you guys will have to excuse my ignorance as I am new to the pro-video community, and a first time visitor to this website.

First, a little about me. Im 22 years old living here in Dallas Texas. I am a professional graphic artist and amateur film-maker. I am the veteran of over 150 original "internet" films that were all shot on a highschool level until about the last year or so. I specialize in automotive racing videos.

My current setup is a Sony VX-2100 with Beachtek XLR, Azden XLR Shotgun, 8 Hour Battery, Manfrotto 501 Head/55 Series Tripod, and some other lenses... Also have a 2nd 2100, Adobe CS2 Suite, Premiere Pro 2.0, Rebel XTI, Hoyttech Racers Cam, etc...

I found this site looking for a 6-8" XLR to XLR cable and found some very attractive ones that users here had made and decided that this forum is my kind of people. I hope I will be welcomed as a member here.

A quick question, what does the "DVX" in this sites URL refer to specifically?

Here is a link to some of my more recent films. You can tell quickly which were filmed with the SONY and which were filmed with my old hand-me-down JVC. $5000 can do alot to improve your quality, lol.

Great, so this is a forum for owners of a different camera... meh. :( I guess I will pack my stuff... i thought this was a "online community for filmmaking" for all camera owners.... hum... only in a perfect world I suppose...

So, I see, im like a chevy hanging out on a FORD board... heh. That little panasonic looks cool, I have seen many around. The guys at G4 use them with a pro sound and light setup to film coverage at autoshows... I know I met them, lol. Peculiar looking prosumer cam that one is... love the onboard XLR... good times.

We'll ill let more members reply in here before I leave in a huff, im looking for a family of filmmakers like to to hangout with online and talk camera stuff...

You've seriously never heard of the DVX before now?

This site started as a club for users of the DVX, but it has grown well beyond that since. We're the biggest online community for people interested in film and video, and we welcome all, not just users of Panasonic cameras.

You'll find filmmakers of all levels here, and the finest wealth of knowledge on the web.

So, "pack your stuff" if you want, but you'll be missing out.

Welcome aboard to DVXuser! Hmm..you'll do well to resize your sig - we have a policy about that around here, but otherwise you're more than welcome. In fact, alot of users here are thinking of switching to either the RED or the canon XH-A1...I've a feeling soon 'DVX'user will become obselete. heh..(dont ban me)

Welcome Jared

Jared, not sounding funny or anything, of course everyone is welcomed here. Take a look at the other camera sections. And I would bet you will find many a VX2K users right here,

But there is a number of things that make me feel that your spoofing us:

(1) Jarred is also the name of the owner/founder of this site
(2) On the one hand, you say your a indie filmmaker, and have a prosumer Sony VX2100, yet have never heard of DVX, that sounds weird, its like saying "I drink tea, but whats this "Coffee" I hear you talk about"

Ok, its possibly that you might not have come across DVX100, in which case I'm sorry for my assumption. But its not unlike someone in your position would not have heard about it.

If your real, then well, read up. The vast information available is just amazing, the people are even more amazing too.

No, im not spoofing you, lol. You can watch my videos to see quite quickly that im very real. Im only 22, but my name is also Jared. Im the founder of a board and site as well, but mine has only attracted 4200 member as of yet!

I have seen the camera so many times, but I dont know anyone who owns the DVX, honestly. Everyone I know runs high-def cams, mostly canons, sonys and JVC's. I have seen the DVX many times, but never knew it was called a "DVX" just because I never had a reason to look into it. I promise im not messing with you. Here is my myspace for even more proof if you do need it so...

If cinematic-style filmmaking is your game, you'd do well to look into the DVX. There's a reason it's the most popular indy filmmaking cam.

Im not in the market for a new prosumer, sorry!!

I love my sony to be honest, the night shots are untouchable for the price, and my camera is not afraid to go 210mph in the wind... I have over $1500 invested in my camera to make sure it can do anything I want it too.

My next camera will be a Canon XL HD-1. Were looking at picking that up early next year...

We also talk a lot about the HVX here. :) The HD version of the DVX. And the RED camera as well. And I'm jealous about the last one :)

Welcome, man

Jason

Definitly go check out the film fests we have here and you will find a ton of work with this camera and the reason we give mad love the DVX. :)

Yeah...

But the last thing I need is a nagging to spend a few more g's on equipment... i just got my sony setup how I want it and im $5000 in the hole for all of it, lol. Im one of those people when I want something I will not stop till I get it, so the last thing I need is alot of people trying to convince me to switch cameras, lol.

Seriously, if you guys keep on me I will give in and be more in debt, please spare me from myself!!!

LOL yep... welcome... you'll have a great time here... I got involved about a year ago... and haven't been able to leave since... I LOVE IT!
