FCP reads my footage differently

Ok, so for the past few weeks I've been shooting a movie in 24pa on the DVX100a, and I've been capturing all the footage using the tutorial in the sticky in this forum, but last night I went to capture the dailies, it performed the advanced pulldown, but when I dragged the footage into the timeline, FCP read the footage as 29.97 and wanted me to render. All the other footage is read as 23.98 and I captured it the same way. I knew this couldn't be right, so I imported the new raw footage into After Effects which reads it as 23.98 right away. So does QuickTime Pro. What's the deal? I'm probably missing something totally obvious here, but I can't see it. :Drogar-Thinking(DBG

Yeah... I've had the exact same problem. There's a fairly simple fix that I found... open the original captured footage (QT) with "cinema tools", analyze it (it will read 23.97), then drop it back into FCP. It'll now read correctly. No need to save it, convert it, or anything, just open it in cinema and look at.

I have no idea why, but it happens. It happened a lot with me when I was using a cheap canon camcorder to capture the footage. I dunno man, it's screwy, and I really don't like to work with 24pa footage because of little things like this. On one tape it captured like, 8 different clips, and read them all differently (29/24/29/24, etc.)

Ok, I opened the footage in Cinema Tools, analyzed it, and it read 23.97. However, I imported it back into Final Cut and it's still reading it as 29.97...

argghh....

Sorry dude... I completely forgot. Alright, try opening the clip in Cinema Tools and analyze it. It should read 23.97 FPS, right?

Now you can try two things... 1) File>Export>converted EDL> 24fps from 30fps, or vice versa (just to see if it helps).

2) in the main window, conform to another frame rate, then back to 23.97.

Here is the original thread I started about this problem, also. There should be an answer in there somewhere.

Let me know.

P.S. You are sure that you have your settings correct in FCP, right? Just to be sure, control click the sequence in the bin, scroll down to... I forget... info... or something like that (I'm logging footage right now, and can't check), and make sure you're timeline reads 23.97 FPS.

I definitely have the project settings correct. All the other footage is fine, it's just this one clip. I'm trying the conversion in Cinema Tools right now.

Yes! I got Final Cut to read the footage as 23.98! Now, the only problem is that the audio is ahead of the video, which is weird but fixable. Thanks for your help!
