Rode NTG1 vs Rode NTG2: what is the difference?

I am about to buy a shotgun mic these days and right now I am trying to decide between NTG1 and NTG2. Is the NTG2 just the new version of NTG1, in the general recommendations it is NTG1 that is suggested while a lot of people here seem to have the NTG2 and to be quite happy with it? Thanks for any info.

Based on Oleg's comments elsewhere I bought the NTG 1 because it is lighter and shorter and costs less. Same audio specs. Either way you will be fine. If using on the DVX or HVX you can run the NTG 1 off phantom power and have a lighter shorter mike.

basically the NTG-2 is a NTG-1 with the capability of using a battery aswell as phantom power which is why its longer and heavier. The NTG-1 is phantom power only.

Thank you, I had the same question! Just upgraded to Canon 5D Mark II and starting to shoot video but need better audio and getting the Zoom H4n.

If you're deciding between the 1 and 2, one consideration might be ... is that with the battery option on the NTG-2, it could be easier to sell later ... and you will sometime way in the future.

Cheers.

I have an NTG-1 and have been using it with a DVX.
I recently snagged a 60D and I'd like to use the NTG-1 with it, without getting a ZoomH4N or other recording device.
Do they make battery powered adapters to distribute 48v?

:)
