creating a filmlike transition

as many of you probably already know when shooting with a film camera the beginning and the end of each shot is overexposed due to the fact that the film does immediatly start shooting at 24fps it takes a few seconds for it to get up to that speed. This creates an organic effect with dancing red/orange/yellow colours.

I would like to recreate this using either premiere pro 2.0 or aftereffects pro 7. Is there a simple plugin or steps to achieve this film effect. Its commonly used in snowboard videos (shot in 16mm) and I would like to apply to my own (shot with DVX100b) to give it that extra "effect" of being shot on film.

Thanks everyone

those timelapse shots were sick. Although its not really the effect Im after I do like it.

Ruska the effect your trying for is called a "light leak." You can purchase this effect from http://artbeats.com/prod/product.php?pg=3&id=160, but it's quite expensive.

I would use After Effects, or a similiar program, and animate an orange/yellow/red gradient, with masks used where appropriate. I did it once, I actually copied the artbeats clip frame for frame, and I nearly lost my mind. It looked pretty good, the difficulty is in the opacity of the effect. It's a bit of trial and error. Good luck.

p.s. ProLost/Stu...I'm a big fan of the Orphanage, and that's a nice flash frame effect.
