Import footage from DVD

I use Cinematize 2 to make QT NTSC-DV clips in one step from a DVD, video, audio, no problems at all. One step, no hassles, ready to edit in FCP like anything else. Visual quality is maintained wonderfully. Sounds to me like you guys are doing something very simple and making it very complicated. I've never had to jump through so many hoops to get footage off of a DVD.

But only DVD's without encryption.

I know this is an old post, but now I'm confused... When I import footage form tape, with the setting as dv ntsc, and i then go into the scratch disk, they are saved as mpeg files, so isn't this in essence editing with mpeg files? I'm confused by the previous comment to forget about editing with mpeg files, is that what i'm doing? Thanks!

When you capture in FCP, you get .mov files in the format you set your capture for. If you see MPEG files, the must have come from somewhere else, cause FCP does NOT capture as MPEG.

hunh, actually it doesn't say mpeg, it says "quicktime movie" does this mean that the footage i'm importing is somehow compressed or changed? Thanks for your help!

No, it is importing the native fomat from tape. For example, if you import NTSC-DV 60i footage from Mini-DV tape, what you get are QuickTime files that are NTSC-DV 60i, period. The compression is "NTSC-DV 60i" which was done in the camera.

Cool, I was worried form all the discussion that I had ben doing something wrong all along. Thanks for clearing it up!
