Color Correcting in Edius

Hello all, just a quick question:

I've had some decent results color correcting footage in Edius. However my confusion comes when trying to match a shot to another shot. In Premiere (oops did I say that??) you can put to two images/footage side by side to make it easier to make comparisons while color correcting. How do you do that in Edius? When I double click on a shot, it sends it to the left side window then I can put my timeline cursor over the clip to correct and click on the effect (like yuv curve) and make changes.. which is great...HOWEVER!! If the clip i'm comparing it to in the left window has color corrections already applied to it, they will NOT be seen, making it impossible to match up. It only shows the clip before the effect was applied for some reason. Understand what im trying to say/do?
Anyone know a work around?

THanks!!

I kinda get what you are saying, though I don't have the answer for you.

One thing you can do though, that may help you in some instances, is save a color correction that you have done and applied to another clip. The you can go to your effects bin, find the saved version and apply it to the new clip. Make sense?

Sorry, I can't help you more.

It looks impossible to do because you are using the wrong method.
In all the canopus cc filters on the right side there is a preview box
6 buttons and a box with percentage.

Now this preview gives you the ability to do color correcting
1 match shot
2 before and after

1 match shot
apply the filter to the clip you want to correct.
open the filter
scroll (with playhead) the shot you want as the master (good color)
press the first button on the preview box
Bring the playhead back to the clip you want to correct.
Now press the the buttons in the preview box which give split screens (horizontal and vertical). Have a look at your broadcast monitor. Play with the percentages and marvel :)

2 I think you can figure this one out now :)

Thanks srEdius! You saved me. I have this shot on the water that I have struggled to color match to a shot from earlier in the day. I've been aggravated with it for months. I finally got it to match up! I was able to do a better job with Edius than I had with Premiere Pro, even with all its fancy color correction features. Either edius is that much better or I'm just getting better at doing it. lol
:-)

Thanks again.

The color correction in edius is really powerful.
If you use the white balance filter you can
correct: blacks / grays and white separate.
You can also use the limits to color correct by ranges.
Adjust what colors are corrected or what values of luma ect ect

The keyframes or nice too. (with the keyframes there are splines)

I don't know if you know this but you can use the pickers to select values in the shot you are matching to.
Sometimes it is really useful. (check whites, black and greys to match)

Keep the waveform and vector monitors open as the values will read out .
In the leftpane you will see numerical values for ire value, yuv and also rgb. (great for matching color)
All this realtime.

colour correction frustration

hi guys,

I've tried to do some colour correction using the demo which now has expired. Anyway, I found the colour correction process very limited, is there only a auto correction facility?

Or does the demo turn off the ability to change the parameters/curves?

Yeh EDIUS is useless with CC....wrong:huh:

Here is a underwater shot taken in dirty green water.

And now after we blued up the background and enhanced the foreground...

ok,

I was looking at things wrongly, I used the actual CC control, which all I could do is drop it onto the timeline, there was no facility to change anything, I obviously should have only looked at the white balance feature.

thanks

After you drop the filter onto a clip, it'll appear in the Information pallete. You can change settings there by double-clicking the filter.
