Hey guys, so is the HVX better then the Canon XH-A1 ?

Hey Disjecta,

I was trying my hand at some wildlife shooting today. I was on a boat on the Florida flats and saw tons and fish, dolphins and birds. Seemed like I was going to get a lot of great shots BUT everytime I pulled the cam out everything disappeared. Every dang time. I think I was able to catch the sunset though, that moved slow enough for me.

LOL! That happens to me a lot. If birds and animals stayed exactly where they were, I would have hundreds of hours more footage than I actually do. Guess they are saving me time and money :)

Maybe if you dress that cam up like a woodland creature or a lake waterfowl the other creatures wouldn't get spooked so easily :)

The P2 work flow has been pretty easy even in a quick paced environment where you are shuffling cards back and forth. I have been on a few shoots so far that have been flawless with no down time. One of the really great things is that you don't have to sit there and log the tape afterwards, I hate doing that.

Yea totally in agreement. i was with aram on one or two of these shoots. they go as smooth as butter, and with 2 8gig cards in 720Pn, you get 40 min or record time. Just pretend youre using a PD 150, in DVCAM mode. 40min...... noone complained then did they?

Thanks Barry,

I never thought I'd be in the same post as Peter Jackson, Clint Eastwood, Kevin Smith, George Clooney, Steven Soderbergh, and Francis Ford Coppola.

:)

yea but you bought the thing they DIDNT!!!!

jk

Did anyone mention a FREE 8gb P2 Card as well? 20 minutes of 720pN mode right off the bat for free.

Give Disjecta an HVX and his films would be equally superb. It's the operator first, camera second. All these new HD cameras are amazing.

YAY! I was able to capture a Pelican jumping on a Dolphins back as he was chasing fish in the channel. It was the funniest thing, the Dolphin would come up and chase bait fish and everytime he did that and circled the Pelican would fly over and try to steal his fish landing right on his back.

well i think that happened already and he was unhappy with the HVX.

Just to be clear. The HVX just didn't have the resolution I was looking for with regard to shooting detailed landscapes so, from a practical standpoint, it didn't suit my subject matter. Other than that, I think the HVX is a fabulous camera.

Dude. the XLH1 is the PERFECT camera for you. Well no. Red is the perfect camera for you, but an XLH1 will do.

Plus the reach of the zoom lens. Disjecta was a major proponent of the Century teleconverter on the DVX; the XLH1's stock lens offers more telephoto than the DVX with the teleconverter. Basically perfectly suited to Disjecta's needs.

that too.

I really wish there were a place wehere we could see on the same monitor under controlled conditions, the different machines side by side.

i wannna see HDV artifacting in realtime use, i wanna see HVX detial aliasing.....

i wanna see how "soft" the HVX is... ETc. BAnd H is no helpc ause youre looking at SD footage on the tiny 9" monitors... Aven Abel cinetech, isnt mcuh help. they have the cams side by side but they are on all different kinda of kinda crappy looking montors....
