Alright, yeah, only a punk brings it up, and then doesn't back it up...

...I was on 'The Island.' Remember the scene where Michael Clark Duncan comes out of the anaesthesia, jumps up, and runs off down the hall with the busted-off robot surgical arms sticking out of him? I was with the robot-arm crew.
I just had lunch with Michael Bay and I told him what you said about him. He says he wants to meet you tomorrow at Sardi's to settle this like men. No guns, no knives.

Yeah and he also said, "I'll color-correct SadMax's face - to black and blue, muthaf**!!" And then he flipped over the cheese and terrine plate we were eating and yelled to the whole outdoor cafe, "Who wants some?!!" and he got those crazy eyes.

Not his direction...just the look...
Bad Boys 2 if you watch it- the colors of the ocean are a shade of turquois that simply doesnt exist...

I

Ohhhhh yes. yes it does. Go to the medeteranian.

if he is brilliant at one thng, its how to make every little ordinary action seem "slick polished and sexy", in the island i swear to god there was an artificial lens flare on screen 85% of the time......

But pickingup a phone is a huge dramatic event in his films. thats very difficult to create consistently.

credit where credit is due.

True that, but...

I know the PA for Bad Boys 2 and he said that he is the biggest jerk he has ever worked with. He also told me that Will Smith and Micheal Bay got in a fight and the entire crew had to clear the set for a while.

Ok hes an ass but you know what? he gets the Job done, and makes the studio money. he can throw acid in someones face, if the film mkaes 200million dollars profit, he will be hired again. ( probably politley asked not to throw acid at people, then given the budget.) such is life dudes.

Sometimes a few hearts get broken.

im not saying its right but it happens.

Somehow I'm not receptive to arguments favoring a director's behaving like (well, being) an over-the-top raging asshole. There are many, many, many directors out there who helm tremendously successful projects (James Cameron and Michael Mann come to mind) who - yes, it's true - can be damned unpleasant, but still hang on to that last shred of professionalism.

And, nobody's heart gets broken. People just decide 'hey, this sh*t isn't worth even what I'm getting paid, here' and they walk.

And a certain number of people decide that, since they're getting shrieked at anyway, hey, why not slow things down a little, f*ck things up a little, and maybe give Lord King Asswipe a reason to scream and kick and cuss. Which, for the producers paying for the whole shindig, is hardly crippling, but not exactly ideal, either.

And a certain number of impressionable types absorb the lesson that creative genius is best demonstrated by super-f*ckhead behavior toward your fellow professionals (or faked by such behavior, even if it isn't actually there at all...) so then there's more of it that the rest of us have to put up with.

Sorry; that should be, 'up with which the rest of us have to put.'

Sorry; that should be, 'up with which the rest of us have to put.'

"From now on ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which I will not put"

- Sir Winston Churchill

I'll stop here less this turn into a rant against prescriptivists! =D

i had lunch with mauro fiore on the set of smokin' aces. he said he'll never work with michael bay again. he shared a number of stories from his experience on 'the island' that i'm sure you're familiar with.
