GOOD EXPLANATION OF THE 24-PULLDOWN PROCESS:

http://www.adamwilt.com/24p/

Hi everyone, I've bought a DVX100B (ouch!) and I was just hoping one of you knew which settings I should use to capture 24 or A24? (A=Advanced)

29.97 fps for both, as I've heard the actual recordings are ALL 29.97?

Also, this guy was saying how there is a different movement look between these two 24 frame settings - but didnt elborate, does anyone know what he means and if one looks better than the other (or better for certain situations?)

Big thanks to any replyrs

24pa has a slightly different look, a bit more juttery, because it's meant to have the pulldown removed to give you the original 24 frames.
A good rule of thumb...
Shoot 24p, 30p, or 60i, edit in a 29.97 timeline, lower fields first.
Shoot 24pa, edit in a 23.976 timeline, no fields.

I recommend using Premire Pro 2.0, it's the best version of Premiere for handling the pulldown.

Thanks! thats really helped me here - just one more thing, is it better to use A-24fps in certain situations than standard 24fps? which if any situations / subjects would this be?

Shooting advanced is a better option if you want to do a film out, make a 24p dvd, or export a file for web distribution. Premiere can remove the advanced pulldown and give you the original 24 frames in all their glory. Premiere can also remove the pulldown from 24p normal, but not as cleanly as it can with the advanced pulldown. If you author a 24p dvd, and watch it on an interlaced television, your dvd player will automatically add the pulldown, and you'll essentially be watching footage that's the same if it was shot 24p normal. Confused yet?

I would just stick to the general rules above. It's mostly about how you plan to edit the footage, in a 23.976 timeline, or a 29.97 timeline. If you want to mix different frame rates in the same timeline I would shoot 24p normal.
